Young Shields Podcast Series

In one way or another for all of us there is a person so deeply knotted to Leipzig since our very beginnings in this town that it's kinda impossible to imagine us without his influence as a role model on so many levels: housemusic, dance moves, deejaying, doin' your own thing, kindness, and most important: as a friend. We talk about Alex Neuschulz aka Sevensol.

Part of the allmighty Manamana, part of Kann Records, Long Vehicle, Soft Skills, discogs business angel and in case you didn't know he's also a private investigator working with all human senses to complete his rogue missions, Just call 1800 – Neuschulz Ermittelt.

Three years ago we asked him to record a mix for our podcast series but for the first and only time we also suggested a musical order: a special mix of Sevensols own definition of Acid-House. To temporarily restore the countless feelings of joy we had when out of the blue he dropped this one chicago tune you almost forgot but instantly remembered why you once fell in love with house music. 
Here we are now and honestly, there were some moments in the last years we thought it would never happen. But damn it, it was worth every second waiting.

Hailing from the German capital of musical eclecticism, Düsseldorf, Paul aka DJ4Never was able to integrate himself very quickly into the local Leipzig club scene by founding the Callshop Radio dependence (and by being an all-around top guy). The first location of the online radio was in the premises of the former Possblthings record store, which was already closely connected to our Young Shields crew through various in-store sessions. 
What a nice coincidence.
As a DJ, Paul impresses above all with the aforementioned musical complexity for which his hometown is famous. This is also reflected in his mix for our YSPS, which effortlessly switches between new beat, disco, EBM and electro (it's a total match, as you might notice).

While curating our podcast series, we are of course always on the lookout for new talents in the endless expanses of the Soundcloud universe.
During one of these excursions, Jojo Vice from Innsbruck came to our attention. Jojo's selections are energetic, raw as well as fast and thus fit perfectly to the contemporary (underground)club sound. After Jojo already recorded sick mixes for a.o. Radio 80000, we are even more happy that she found time for our YSPS. Big up.

Finally it sees the light of day: a podcast by machine wizard Milium. One of Leipzigs finest producers under his Milium moniker, part of Dog Balls and as far as we can identify countless others in the consilium of Clear Memory. In our opinion the most powerful label our city has to offer nowadays. 

Sound- and musicwise Miliums productions and sets vary between his soft spot italo disco, wave and kind of industrial-cold machine music and of course electro. A mixture we take absolute pleasure in.

He describes the idea behind this mix as 'still no rave, here is rave in a box'. There‘ s nothing to add from our side to that. Imagine dancing to this mix if you´re able to remember what it means and feels to dance inside a maelstrom of lights, bodys and energy. We´re sure  this mix will help you bringing back the memory.

Be prepared for a melancholic ride into spacey depths, a perfect conceptual mix for lonely autumn
nights by leipzig based qorpus. Besides hanging around at the Institut für Zukunft and creating
proper designs, we know him since years from different diy-structures and stuff between the
hardcore/punk community and dazed raves all around the town.
When he played at our party back in june he definitely proved that he also can get a dancefloor on
fire with his own musical aproach, superiously sliding between genres and atmosphres as you can
convince yourselves by the recording of that night in our livecuts-section.
We´re sure that it won´t be the last time you all heard from him and are very happy with his
contribution to our podcast series!

We welcome efemme to our YS family with this full throttle mix of bangin´electro, ravy stompers and acidic basslines. All the ingredients to turn a dancefloor into a mayhem of amphy sweat and bouncing bodies. At least in our opinion.
Originally from Sheffield/UK where she was a resident at The Night Kitchen, she now lives in Berlin, hosting a monthly radio show called „Here there be monsters“ on boxout.fm, absolutely worth checking out. When we got to know her sound few years ago it was crystal clear for us to invite her to play at one of our partys, because her music fits perfectly into our idea of a Young Shields signature sound: dancefloor-orientated, without compromises and fresh as hell. Check this podcast and you´ll understand for sure.

As part of the Crew Devotion she is currently reshuffling the cards of the underground scene in her hometown Berlin by providing a signature sound- podcast series and by doing well curated partys in smaller, lesser known venues around the city.
This podcast – the harshest one in our expanding series – perfectly shows her cutting approach to her favourite genres of EBM, Dark Disco, Cold Wave, Acid and distorting Techno: Mixing old and new powerhouses into a raging melange of angriness, exhaustion and anxiety. Take a breath and listen to our new podcast delivered by the infamous Rimini Hartmann. Both are part of the notorius ILL crew in Hamburg, one of them is also part of the best toilet scenario we know in this world: Zur Klappe in Berlin.
Sometimes we forget about our passion of House Music so this podcast came in the right time to remind us how timeless and healing it can be: Pushy without the tech-drums, dreamy without the kitsch, deep without the construction kit-emotions. Exactly how we learned to love electronic music and raving. Or to be honest how we wish we had learned to love it at the east coast or in the motor city and not in the german boreout towns we come from.

Podcast Nr. 26 is made by lovely Lauer who gave it the name „Weizenbierbowle“. An excellent journey through his cosmos of house music. Sometimes cheesy, sometimes with a good portion of disco, sometimes with a proto 80s feel, all the time with the special Lauer-Vibe which makes him so unique as a Producer and DJ.
King of remix duties, stable collabos, part of Tuff City Kids, resident at Robert Johnson, active in what we call the FFM-Schleckermäulchen-Scene, drummer in the infamous Destroyér back in the days, this list could go on and on and on. We´re really happy to have him on board!

Here comes our next podcast, again straight from Hamburgs over- and underground: FFAUX. 
As part of the bustling Headshell Crew doing partys all over the city in the last years, as one part of the acidic industrial punk project Future Relics and as a producer/dj we really appreciate his diversified musical output, wandering from disco and house to a harsher sound full of noisy Ebm, broken beats and a lot of wavy synths nowadays. 
The podcast he made for us reflects this musical origins: some dark disco, cold and wistful, an 80s Ebm/ Industrial feel without getting to aggressive but all the time with a soulful groove focused on a floor we all would be dancing on.

Some people think he´s a guy from sweden, others believe he is Aphex Twin or at least Aphex Twins´s twin, some claim that he was involved in the mysterious mini royal production years ago -  still one of Leipzigs most reliable party banger-anthems - some others including us would say that he is the living proof that Oldcastle/Thuringia has more to offer than skat cards and a closed ryanair airport: the one and only True Kunze.
If you´re looking for someone to talk about the latest Deutschrap content, the impact of Chantal Mouffe on the german left wing, the legendary Weisse Kugel or if you´re thinking about maybe joining a pottery class for the first time of your life, he´s your go-to guy.
The mix he contributed perfectly shows his musical openmindedness: a journey through genres, time and emotions with a constant undertone of spring and hope. Not the worst approach in these dark times we are living in right know.

Meuk meuk meuk, here comes our next podcast by Alice in Flames. 
When she's not playing Sims, looking into old Bargfelder Ausgaben, digging ultra obscure 80s russian wave you've never heard of, writing articles in her own magazine called „Gecko News“ or is putting effort in keeping the Pracht Leipzigs coolest hangout, she's one of our favourite Djs when it comes to Hip Hop from old school to uk grime and drillrap to trap without the annoying reggaeton in it to Miamis biggest Bass and Electro. 
Besides her profound knowledge of different sounds and genres we're really into her mixing approach of cutting and sometimes scratching, giving a fuck on common styles by creating her own technique.
We didn't really know what to expect musically when we asked her to do a podcast but are super happy with this fresh basstard of Miami influenced old and new trainbombing electro.

A message to all of you broken beat-enthusiasts: Anna Malysz provides our newest podcast filled with an eclectic mixture of housy breaks but no petty breakyhouse, leftfieldish electro and emotional 90s warehouse reminiscences. A warehouse is where we invited her to play at one of our partys back in 2018 where she convinced us not only with her musical taste but also with her drinking skills and good old spirit of indiepartys, cheers. 
Bustling on plenty levels for some years now she's become one of Leipzigs most influential multipliers. Beeing one of the chef-bookers of the fomative Conne Island and as part of the Crews Nice 4 What and G-Edit pushing long overdue female and feminist topics into the scene just to name a few things. We are really happy to have her on board and are also deploying the chance to say thank you for taking stuff seriously beyond just dejaying.

Long overdue, but finally it’s going to happen. Listen to our newest podcast made by one of the most charming people we know: LUX. 
Hard for us to think about Leipzig and everything we love about the city‘s electronical scene and not to mention her. As former part of the IO Collective, dancing the pain away together in the woods and meadows countless days and nights, taking first babysteps as nervous DJs together, noticing her eating plastic deco apples on the Conne Island dancefloor, experiencing sunrise romanticism in Olganitz or by just watching all the photos she took over the years as Leipzigs scene and friendship-chronist over and over again.
The perfectly mixed and thoughtful selected podcast she contributed has everything we love about her and her music. This time a bit more „darker“ as usual (at least some of us would say), eclectic and elusive in a good way and non-stop with this special Lux-feeling in it what makes her one of the best DJs this city originated. Emotional, warm, meandering and truly danceable.  
Now living in Berlin and traveling around the world  she will always have a place in our hearts and parties even if we sadly can´t hang around as much as we used to.

We ́re back on track with a new podcast jewel, this time made by our friend Cornelius straight outta the preppy town we like so much. 

Deeply rooted in Hamburg's weirdo melange of music, Geschichte und Eigensinn, art, Formula 1, running party series, underground radio stations and renting Airbnbs to prepare lobster (not yet), he is also the Tjostminister of Pandawelt, a beautiful world of happy shiny people aiming for new forms of living together a quiet life. We recently found out, that his spirit animal is butterfly, kinda sweet, innit? 

Musicwise he ́s hard to pin down and unexpectable, as shown in this mix which we describe as a trippy underwater hightrip. Dubby, motor city vibes, beatstructures outside the comfort zone and with a certain tense crawling beneath the surface. There ́s also a production of himself hidden in it, make sure to listen carefully.

One of the coolest things that happened in this shithole of a year: we had the possibility to meet Fine aka Best Boy Electric in person. 
After some time of quiet fandom of their sound, we invited them to play at our last party at IfZ in January and shortly after that to play in their hometown Hamburg at our legendary (at least in our twisted memories) party in the mighty halls of Frappant.

As part of the crews Headshell and Possy – not to forget their involvement in one of  the best radio stations we know, Hallo:Radio, Fine is steadily leaving their mark on Hamburgs scene and sound. Sometimes wavey ebmish, most of the time electro in its different characteristics but always as one of the best and friendly djs we know.

The mix which makes them part of the Young Shields legacy went straight into our hearts and dance-indigent bodies. A perfect journey into the dephts of electro – the more detroitish, spacey fields with a certain tense and all the time enough punch to let you dance into another dimension (sounds cheesy but hey: truth to be told). What a ride to kiss 2020 where it belongs: 
the dump of history.
