According to the internet, around 75% of all Soviet Bloc housing was constructed from prefab concrete paneling by 1991. Just imagine that for a second if you will. Drab, concrete blocks of flats flanking residential streets in every town and city. With that in mind, it's hardly surprising when music produced by individuals that grew up in the wake of the Iron Curtain falling paints a picture of bleakness and desolation.

Treading a similar path to fellow countryman Buttechno, the enigmatic тпсб made his debut with an unnerving cassette for Noorden, but the closing track of his latest effort gives hint to some potential light at the end of the tunnel. Don't let those eerie vocals and booming kick drums fool you – a feeling of optimism eventually prevails in the shape of some glacial synths, lighting up a path through the swampy murk. It seems fitting then that it should arrive as the inaugural release for a label going by the name of Dark Past Bright Future. Whether recently formed or well established, tag tracks with descriptions like "weird Russian techno," and you're almost guaranteed to catch our attention.
