Tacoma  may not be the first city that comes to mind when it comes to music, but a new movement of hit makers and artists may soon be changing that perspective.   Rapper Young Fame is at the forefront of the movement.

“I always felt like Tacoma was a melting pot that exposes you to a lot of different styles and talents,” says Fame.  “We may be in the shadow of Seattle, but the recent movement here speaks for itself.”

The movement Fame refers to includes Writers Block, a part of his team that have become hit songwriters and producers working with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Iyaz.

“I definitely feel like the momentum that we are building is going to let me be that guy.  There is a lot of talent here and the stars have to align, but I think they are starting to, says Fame.”   “We’ve always had our foot in the door up here on the production side, but now its all working together.  It would have been difficult without my team.”

Recognition of his cities talents is far from the only challenge Fame has had to overcome to make it to the point he is now with his career.  Serving a ten year prison sentence was a much more daunting task, but one that did not come with benefits according to Fame.

“There are a lost of West Coast California influences in Tacoma with gangs and crime.  I got caught up in the fast money culture and it led to big consequences for me,” explains Fame.  “It saved my life though, it let me formulate a plan.  I saw all my friends and family coming in and out of prison and dying, and it let me know that’s NOT what I want for myself.”

Fame cites his childhood as a large reason for pursuing his musical ambitions and talent.

“Growing up in my house there was always different music playing that I drew influences from.  My dads favorite artist was James Taylor, I’ve been to two James Taylor concerts myself,” says Fame.    

Now with his music career reaching new levels, collaborating on his latest mixtape Welcome To The Social Club with legendary West Coast DJ Skee and a slew of high profile guest features, Fame feels the time is now for people to start connecting with him nationally.

“In my eyes, Skee is the biggest west coast DJ there is and just takes the movement to the next level,” says Fame.  “Not to downplay any other DJ, but Skee is more than just music, he’s so ground level, he plays such a bigger role and can play that part.”
 
With musical influences that range from the aforementioned Taylor to 2pac and Mac Dre, Fame feels that much like his surging hometown, there is no ceiling to his music.

“There is no limit at all for my music and what I’m doing now. I make a lot of grind records, but I want my records to have that feeling,” Fame explains.  “I want to make motivational music for everyone, no matter what people are doing with their lives.”
