Originally recorded in the summer 2018 of, Ardea describes his new single “You Your Body” as a song about learning to live within your body, rather than your mind. A collaborative effort, Ardea’s reflective vocal performance is accompanied by acoustic guitar from Mike Vigill, keyboards from Shai-Li, and percussion from Samuel Ephland.

Jaws That Bite released his electronic opus with the album Glacial Medicine in late 2021. Now he is prepping a deluxe edition featuring remixes from Daedelus, Mux Mool, Noer the Boy, Peace to Mateo, and Mega Powers.

Noer the Boy takes the dark and atmospheric “Alien Code (Beams)” and stretches it to the point of breaking, then reinforces it with an ominous bass line. Fragments of Jaws’ original track stab through a wall of stretched metal before morphing into a haze of digital notes. Noer takes his time reconstructing and building upon the original, while propelling it to new heights with waves of sub bass.

Glacial Medicine (Deluxe) will be available digitally September 9th, 2022, and on transparent blue vinyl in early 2023.

Detroit producer Jaws That Bite released his album “Glacial Medicine” in late 2021. The album – with its icy, otherworldly soundscapes punctuated by thundering percussion and growling bass lines – quickly highlighted Jaws as one of the region’s most exciting emerging electronic producers.

Now “Glacial Medicine (Deluxe)” sees producers Daedelus, Mux Mool, Noer the Boy, Peace to Mateo, and Mega Powers put their spin on Jaws’ arrangements. Like an abstract painting, it’s fascinating to see how each producer interprets Jaws’ original compositions.

Album Description:
Eliot Lipp’s career spans nearly 20-years and was initially defined by his dusty instrumental hip-hop productions. Since his debut release on Scott Herren’s (Prefuse 73) Eastern Developments label in 2004, Lipp has explored several styles including electro-funk, disco, and techno. His eccentric productions on The Outside, released in 2008 on Mush records, and the big-room dance sensibilities of Shark Wolf Rabbit Snake, released on Pretty Lights Music in 2012, saw Lipp building fan bases in connected yet distinct audiences. 

Skywave, released in 2017 on Young Heavy Souls, marks Lipp’s last solo full-length effort. In the five years following, Lipp would continue to highlight his versatility as a producer through a number of collaborations and side projects. 

As one half of Minutes Unlimited, a group formed with fellow electronic producer Michna (Ghostly International), Lipp displays a talent for creating precise, shiny techno/trap that showcases both artists’ synth and drum machine dexterity. Eliot also provides the prefix for the appropriately named Lipphead, a collaborative effort with underground hip-hop and downtempo producer Blockhead. Lipphead’s loose and experimental approach to dance music stands in stark contrast to the cold, methodical tone of Minutes Unlimited. 

Somewhere in between and slightly off-center of these two sounds is Encounters, Lipp’s forthcoming full length LP. From laid-back downtempo cuts “Know By Now” and “The Lowdown” to choppy upbeat hip-hop instrumentals like “Guitar Maniacs”– Eliot condenses years of growth and influence into this expansive double LP. Comprised of 16 tracks, the sequencing of Encounters pulls from Lipp’s DJing experience, creating a seamless and cohesive listening experience from start to finish.

Eliot Lipp - Turtle Party II

While living in Los Angeles, Eliot Lipp earned the nickname “Young Alpine” from his friends – a nod to his Northwest roots in Tacoma, Washington. His latest single Young Alpine is aptly titled, for it recalls a younger version of the artist and the music he used to make when he was just starting out.

The track is a fusion of synths, guitars, and organic samples drizzled over a laid-back groove that has been Lipp’s trademark for years. He continues to experiment with new ideas and trying out different styles, but sometimes a song like this just comes together naturally.

Young Alpine is featured on Lipp’s forthcoming full length LP Encounters, set to release on November 11th digitally and Spring 2023 on yellow vinyl via Young Heavy Souls.

Lipphead, the production duo composed of veteran producers @blockheadnyc and @eliotlipp, deliver an effortless groove that combines jazz-inspired percussion and dazzling brass instrumentals on their latest track ‘Unisax Romper’.

The second single to be taken from their forthcoming full-length LP ‘From The Back’ – slated for release via Detroit label Young Heavy Souls in July 2023 – ‘Unisax Romper’ highlights the pair’s masterful ability to create a captivating listening experience without taking themselves too seriously. Perfectly capturing their sound, Lipp remarks: 

“‘Unisax Romper’ really packs a lot of instruments into one song. I’m not sure how they managed to fit them all into their studio; a string section, flutes, drum kit, congas, a wild saxophone player, and they even had room leftover for some bass-slappin’. The lonely piano outro really tops it off. This is a hot bowl of funk stew, a crock pot of lipp-smackin’ goodness.”

With their characteristic production prowess, Lipphead has once again pushed the boundaries of electronic music, showcasing their ability to blend genres and create something entirely fresh and exciting. ‘Unisax Romper’ is a testament to their innovative approach to music-making, as they continue to push the envelope with each collaboration.

While writing Simple Solutions they found themselves on tour and decided to utilize various state-of-the-art mixing consoles in New York, Texas, and Washington. Reels were saturated, headrooms pushed purple, and new vocals were made so dry you think they're wet.

Primer is the alias and creative project of vocalist/producer Alyssa Midcalf.

With her debut album, Novelty, Midcalf showcases her skills as both a vocalist and songwriter. The sound of the album, which was composed heavily on a Roland Juno synthesizer, is characterized by driving drum beats, sub-heavy bass lines and shimmering synth leads. Midcalf’s vocals are airy yet dynamic, binding her songs together with a reverberating surrealism. To see these elements on full display, look no further than her haunting cover of The Beach Boys song Til I Die. 

Partly inspired by the indie time travel film of the same name, Midcalf says she was also drawn to the sense of futurism the word Primer invokes. This is fitting with the tone of her debut album, which brings to mind images of a dystopian disco. 
 
Midcalf, who gained some attention as one half of the duo Parts, made her introduction as Primer with the single Anesthetized, released on YHS Records in 2018. Her full album, Novelty, is set to be released on YHS Records on March 1st, 2019.

The Firmament

Balancing his time between working as a touring drummer & creating his own music at home in Brooklyn, Steve Bryant, p/k/a Cru the Dynamic, draws influence from a wide range of musical settings. His experience behind the kit influences his production style as much as his live playing is informed by the electronically produced beats of hip-hop, drum n’ bass, trap and footwork.

Bryant follows up 2017’s The Quick EP, with Cuts, his first full length album on Detroit’s YHS Records. Cuts, drawing its name from the micro-sliced samples peppered throughout many of the tracks, blends the skittering rhythms of footwork with the head-nod inducing half-time pulse of hip-hop. Digital and analogue intersect in this body of work from an artist who has his feet firmly planted in both worlds.

Throughout the 37-minute journey, club-ready bangers like “Passive Fist” and “Now Put ‘em Out” are nestled between epic compositions such as “Safe Party” and “Drunk Duke”, while low-key coolers “Learnin & Earnin” and “T Daze” provide breathers from the breakneck pace of this album. Strap in, “Cuts” is both a euphoric and dizzying ride.
