Plaisir de France is well known for his remixes and collaborations with the best of the new French pop scene. He has worked with everyone from Regina Demina and Bertrand Belin to Arnold Turboust and his debut album from 2021 featured 27 collaborations that explored everything from club sounds to introspective home listening, dark grooves to happy house. Now the pleasure of the album is extended with 17 remixes, four of which are teased here.

First up is dark disco mainstay Damon Jee with a pure dance floor hit that is explosive and mechanical. His take on 'Serpent' is the sound of an infernal machine that goes into overdrive as it powers on in a rugged but compelling fashion.

Legendary innovator Tim Paris then steps up with his signature and singular electro-rock sound on his version of 'Cogne Mon Coeur.' It has a melancholic mood and bittersweet sense of nostalgia that slowly lifts you up as the power of the heady guitar chords and plaintive keys make their mark.

The brilliant Badknife remixes 'Sur La Piste' and brings a 2 am atmosphere where black leather, distorted drums and 80s sounds make for a menacing and uncompromising groove. It is an infernal sound that leads to both physical and mental abandon.

Finally, Polocorp is one half of Polo and Pan and he remixes 'Dans Toutes les Chansons d'Amour' with the club mind in. He layers in deep, hypnotic bass to make for an energetic cut that is ready to attack both body and mind.

This is a vibrant collection of characterful club sounds. The Tim Paris remix will be available 23rd September, the Polocorp remix on 7th October and the remaining two remixes from Badknife and Damon Jee will be released with the album on 21st October.

Edinburgh-based producer George T announces the release of his latest single, "Love Letter," which is set to drop on Paradise Palms Records. The track, a beautiful mind buffet of left-field and dubby influences, marching hypnotic lead synth, pads, syncopation, and an enchanting, haunting vocal. "Love Letter" marks a new chapter in George T's rich and ever blossoming career, showcasing his talent for crafting genre-bending tracks that blur the lines between electronic and experimental music. With its intricate production, mesmerising melodies, and captivating rhythms, the single transports the listener to a warped pleasure planet. In addition to the original version of the track, George T also offers up a hypnotic dub version "Dub Letter." Doused in acid and featuring an instrumental-only arrangement that emphasises the song's rhythmic and atmospheric qualities.

The single and accompanying dub is releasing digitally with Paradise Palms Records and being distributed globally through EPM on the 14th of July.

The Unbounded way

What attracts us to Chilean-born artist Ricardo Tobar is the notion of intersection, and although fusion is nothing new, as a concept it will always pull our heartstrings. Applying influence is amateur, we see this over and over again as we endure trend-driven appropriation of cultures the world over, but the epiphany when an artist finds true synergy between heritage and influence is a pivotal moment that the inspired will seek, even though it may take the length of one’s career to behold. As pretentious as that may sound, it is precisely the hybrid born from that place of intersection that excites us at the ESP Institute, the “A plus B that equals 3”. We hear this in Ricardo’s music — the Latin American instinct in his drums and percussion, sometimes tightly aligned with body movements and other times hauntingly mis-aligned and chaotic, intersects with his rock influence of ethereal (micro) melodies that slowly layer and layer until we’re climbing a glorious (macro) wall of sound — but most importantly we hear where these different parts of his life come together to further create one unique voice. On both sides of his ESP Institute debut 'Liturgia', Tobar couples one pulsing dance-driven track with another atmospheric and immersive track, requiring we educate ourselves in the polarity of this language he’s building, one that will expand to tell a broader story later this year with his debut album. Cleveland is forever in search of the brown note. This is his second offering for the ESP Institute. Side A’s 'Tusk' is a beautiful paradox—rhythm programs that churn like the inner workings of a grandfather clock, unmistakably mechanical, yet fashioned through muted analogue instrumentation that paints a deceptively organic picture. The crystallized jangle of FM synth voices toy with the softened drum patterns and vibrant animal-like chord gestures over nearly seven minutes of splendor. On side B, 'Aku' digs further into mysticism, manifesting digital jungle themes, cleverly abstracted through erratic bleeps, distant tribal drums, atonal flutters and synthetic bird calls. The cinematic quality of Clevelands production shines through both tracks, but its 'Aku' that sweeps us from reality to embark on a moonlit expedition in search long lost treasures, proving Cleveland a virtuoso skilled in building complex narratives with sound. These two songs will modulate your frequencies.

The rays were shining through the towering window, It overlooked the old church and was the only hint of natural light to be found in this deep, dark gloomy place. There was the occasional flicker of gold to be seen hanging from the tall ceiling, candles danced softly by the corner of the room as people came and went with delicate purpose. They were here to pray and observe the beautiful surroundings, they knew little of what lurked beyond the far wall.

Not An Animal have long been friends of Ransom Note and that's why we are even more delighted when they choose to release a banger such as this. They've also drafted in Roman Flugel and Frank Butters for remixes but the original is the treat for us.
