Igneous Volition

Since February 24th, Ukrainian lands have faced the onslaught of Russian forces under the guise of a "special military operation". The war has destroyed the lives, homes, and livelihoods of Ukrainian civilians.

This conflict comes especially close to us - Sonia, who co-operates the United Selector Network, is a Ukrainian citizen and native with close ties to Kyiv, with family and friends still living in the region.
Although it is far from Los Angeles, we have felt the war very deeply and feel compelled to speak and act.

We present a compilation with all proceeds going to support those impacted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We will be donating the money received to a volunteer group in Kyiv that distributes
food and medical supplies to civilians impacted by the war. We greatly appreciate the artists that have contributed their work to making this compilation possible as well as all of you who support by purchasing it, donating to support volunteer groups and individuals, or spreading the word about what is still happening in Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine is the timeless story of the universal against the particular -- an imperial giant attempting to swallow up and eradicate a culture that it has long viewed as inferior simply because it is different.

Despite hundreds of years of attempts at the complete Russification of Ukraine via deportation, depopulation, and suppression of the Ukrainian language and cultural practices, the people of Ukraine have been able to keep their traditions and identity alive. We are proud of those who continue their legacy by defending Ukraine against the imperial monster.

The cover art depicts the founders of Kyivan Rus': Shchek, Kyy, Khoryv, and Lybid. The poem "Contra Spem Spero" is by Lesya Ukrainka, who dedicated her life to maintaining Ukrainian culture through verse and greatly contributed to the literary history of Ukraine.
