MY 2 CENTS ARE FREE
I stand corrected
Not seated or laying down
Not sifting through dreams
Not twirling my hair 
As little girls may do
When they wish on a star
For their dear wish to come true
Not a million shooting meteors
All showering above
At one and the same time
Could light the dark night
Of my stark single soul
Not a spark can ignite
Another fire to burn
From the bottom of my heart
Where it’s charred and burned
Where once it churned
A million daydreams
No, I am not spinning in fields of green
Not singing to a blue sky above
While I’m down below
Still above ground
Not a million lucky pennies 
Raining from above
With a million wishing wells around
Would matter one cent to me
For my two cents
I’ll bring to the table
I’ll put down one thing
That much of my own imagination
Invented all the disappointment
That keeps me from believing
In the beauty of a dream
Or a wish on a star
To come through
I stand, still
With the weight of nothing
Ever coming true
And never have I ever
Felt rest since
As I stand corrected
With eyes wide open
I don’t even blink
And I no longer bank 
On Lady Luck 
Or her wink
