Youri Lentjes caught the attention of the Dutch public when in 2014, he came runner-up in De Beste Singer Songwriter van Nederland. What followed was a string of dates in some of the country’s biggest venues (Paradiso, De Oosterpoort, Patronaat, and many more), and collaboration with some incredible creators (Lars Janssen of Blue Blood, Matsend Montsma, and Emmy award winner Elise van ’t Laar), but at the crest of all of this success, life got in the way. 

Youri’s father way diagnosed with cancer, and Youri’s days were suddenly filled with whirring machines, waiting rooms, and fear. Youri journaled the entire ordeal, and wrote literally hundreds of songs as a reflection on the sickness, panic, the threat of impending loss, and the feelings of revisiting a troubled youth that were going on all at the same time through this ordeal. 

His upcoming album, Ex Messiah, is an entire full-band full length recorded and performed by Youri himself. Incredibly, it was entirely recorded and mixed on Youri’s phone.
