One feeling or emotion that Deno and I were adept at delivering was the feeling that, due to our skin color and social class, we were a long shot, and different ways of looking at that feeling, mostly how we didn't agree with that assesment and why.

We had driven to the park to smoke some weed in the gorgeous Elk Grove weather near my house. First we went to ampm and picked up a 6 pack each of budweiser tall cans, 24oz. So we are sitting in the car next to the park playing a cd full of my latest instrumentals. This beat came on and Deno kept telling me to leave it on that beat, or start the beat over. I can remember both of us suddenly bursting out rapping this hook in sync with the other, spontaneously. I think I had referenced all the brain dead but catchy hooks that were dominating the radio right then. I figured we could say something, over and over, and change notes just like these other ignits.

A daytime session. Never performed live, I resurrected the song for the album. Check My Record is soo much fun to perform live, I had to keep both. Not to mention the production advances I made while fixing up this song. Logic is such a huge crazy program I feel as though I will never know it's full capabilities. They say Black Eyed Peas have used it.

I was also missing a song about drinking for the homies to bump.

I run the show, every angle I can get my hand in. I use this spot for photos and media that may not be relevant to the other two facebook pages. I have my own studio, I make my own beats, as well as tango with beats homies pass my way. I have my own still camera and love taking pics. I also have my own HD video hand held and video editing capability.

Why Rap?

I am a California native, and I have spent my entire existence over here and the first rap album I ever listened to was Snoop Dogg, Doggystyle. For my 16th birthday my dad gave me his 1989 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab 4x4, and took me to Circuit City on Florin Rd, and got a new cd deck installed with a custon sub to fit under my back bench. Before that I was a Pearl Jam, Bush, Aerosmith guy, but the rap sounded the best through the new subs. I had some catching up to do. Got all my Tupac, Biggy, Mac Dre, and old school rap with Napster in the dorms at CSULB. 

Where you from?

I grew up in Nor Cal so smoking weed was easy, and I went to a knew school so I was the first graduating class. A rich buddy of mine that went to a private school taught me how to party, and I brought that to Sheldon High School. Junior and Senior year, on the weekends, (before cell phones were affordable to everyone) I would get phone calls at my house from randoms I barely spoke to asking where the party was at. Another tall skinny white boy, who happened to be my best homie, went to a nearby school, and was my getaway driver for countless booze runs. The party literally started when we got there. We learned that drinking, smoking, and free-styling were are favorite things to do when we had free time, aside from chasing women and athletics. 

How did you learn to do this?

We grew from traveling around the area, battling whoever might by rapping. Once a beat box or a rap caught our ears, we were heat seeking missiles. I specialized in my endless beatbox, and always loved finding another decent beatboxer so I could bust a free on them. I lived for the look on people's faces when they would first hear the sound we were making. That turned into wanting our own gear to produce and record. We, Deno and I, went from fruity loops, to Magix Studio, to Logic Pro. Went from computer mic with a napkin around it, to an sm58 performance mice, to a condenser mic for recording with a Reflexion filter through a midi interface with monitors.

What do you sound like?

I listen to everything that makes money, I love and respect so many different types of music and artists in this game I have to listen to it all. I learn what my ears like and apply that to my own music. I like to call it alternative rap, unlike gangsta rap. I produce songs about things relevant to me, emotions and situations, that others may encounter along the way. I want as many people as humanly possible to get a chance to hear my music and relate. Anger, Happiness, Ambition, Sex, Business, Betrayal, Apprehension, Determination, Persistence, Success, Doubt, Fear, Courage, Excitement, Anticipation, Charm, Mental Dialogue, Lonely, Lost, Ferocious, Caring, Planning, Execution, Evaluation, Networking, Marketing, Creativity, Ingenuity, luck, hope...

What is the most difficult part of it all?

Keeping up with all of the web content, keeping it synced, and cohesive, across such a large number of sites, can be very challenging. I realized after building almost the entire network, that I needed to create my own pages for the Justin TFJ Stevenson name. YourMusicFree.com has become a monster all of it's own. I have four emails, three facebooks, two twitters, three photobuckets, one flickr,one wikipedia, one craigslist, one ebay, one reverbnation, one myspace, one last.fm, one soundcloud, one youtube, one Google+, one tunecore, and a tumblr I use for home base of it all. Just when I think I have caught them all up, something new comes along, and require more hours of attention. I want to be responsible for the content that pops up when you search for my name, or my albums, or my websites.

What's the best part? The most fun?

The best part is watching the numbers go up, hearing feedback from people, but most certainly performing live on stage! This year (2011) when ZoBiz and I went on in the slot immediately before Machin Gun Kelly, I reached my goal of packed house in the middle of Hollywood. Next up, get all those people in the joint to be there for me! The last thing that makes it fun is hearing shitty music on the radio and thinking to myself, "Dam my tracks WAY better than this! If this can get on, I surely can!" Or when I hear some new fire, and it inspires me, or opens my mind up to another production technique or idea that I needed to unlock.
