Sensations of Frequency Vol. I

“Effervescent” is a multimedia performance art project centered around the gathering, training, and presentation of my original song, “Effervescent” by a choir of multi-racial transgender/non-binary/gender non-conforming/gender fluid individuals in Los Angeles. Since September 2021, I have workshopped and rehearsed with initial five choir members selected by audition who  underwent workshops led by me on meditation, movement, traditional Korean singing, and costume- making. Together we will generate materials to complete the “Effervescent" music video and accompanying “behind the scene/making of” social media reality-style documentary. 

The word 'effervescent' reminds me of a small crack or opening in my iceberg of oppression that lets loose a few bubbles of liberation. Growing up in the transphobic society of Korea, I went on a spiritual artistic journey to find my voice as a transgender artist after immigrating to LA in 1989. I realize that all it takes for things to change is the escape of a few bubbles, my truth. My intention of working with mainly transgender singers is to add more sonic bubbles of freedom as if they are the missing echoes of our collective voice which I believe will restore the balance in the hearts of contemporaries in society. The “Effervescent” music video will be published on Youtube/social media for mass-access. The documentary film will be submitted to OutFest, Sundance, Asbury Park Music Film Festival.
