“Longing” is about a deep yearning I’ve felt throughout most of my life. I’ve never been able to pin down what exactly I’m searching for, whether it’s singular or layered, constant or fluid, or even possible to identify in any capacity. This general sense of longing isn’t a hindrance; it has driven me to take risks, pursue exciting new opportunities, and seek out connections that have formed into some of the most important relationships of my life. Longing goes hand-in-hand with ambition for me, and I wouldn’t be who I am today without it. This song is a representation of how it feels in the moments where longing overpowers me, whether it manifests itself as loud stabs of heartache or settles quietly in my chest. I may never find exactly what it is I’m searching for, but I do know that making music helps me make peace with the uncertainty.
