To celebrate the year that was 2014 I am giving away a special remix. I guess Pachakuti was my first ever exposure to Andean music - when I was about 8 years old the group came to do a workshop in my primary school. As it was a bit of something special in my little town in the north of England, we bought the CD. This week I found it just this same gem gathering dust at my parents house and decided to give it a 21st century edit.

Señor Papagayos Reise

Yukazu, a band initially formed in 2010 by Lenuschka Krueger and Mike Hermann, combine the charm of French chanson with gypsy Balkan groove. It's heritage from Berlin is clearly audible yet modernised by the right kind of pop appeal. The ingredients of this concoction are not just another paneuropean mash but rather a very unique fusion of mature, experienced musicians and taste. Yukazu's lyrics are generally in French, but language will never limit the expression found within their music.The complex arrangements of the clarinet, accordion, guitar, percussion, and vocals transform from studio arrangements to infectious fireworks when performed live.
