Ascension for string quartet (2022)

The piece was written for flute, clarinet/bass clarinet, piano, violin and cello, but especially revised for Ensemble Via Nova. (fl, cl, accord,vlin and cello) at IlSuono Academy 2017.

I have completed this piece, The Wave Transformation, with an concept of wave shoaling and refraction. 
The shoaling means the process by which the wave height, length, celerity and other properties of the waves change as they travel from deep water to shallow water. 
The refraction is the process by which the direction of a wave moving in shallow water at an angle to the bottom contours is changed; the part of the wave crest advancing in shallower water moves more slowly than the part of the crest still advancing in deeper water. 
The piece starts with string duo and narrow intervals with microtones. I organised time and pulses through the piece and represent given pressures, and the musical phase transformation is represented by five instruments.

Birefringence for solo violin (2015)

the piece was performed by Ezio Ghibaudo (accordion), Kaoru Nishimura(clarinet/bass clarinet) and Kei Yamazawa (cello) in the concert of Shono Dall'Italia e dal Giappone at Salon Tessera, Tokyo on 14 December 2018.

This piece, vector spaces, was premiered by Yukari Uekawa(tenor saxophone) and Alexander Sigman(electronics) in the concert of the Sound Traffic Series at Koendori Classics Tokyo on 7th January 2019.
The Sound Traffic concert series has been organised by NY-based pianist Hitomi Honda and on the concert of 7th, pieces by Akio Mokuno, Alexander Sigman, Vinko Globokar and myself were performed by Hitomi Honda (piano), Reiko Manabe (piccolo/flute/bass flute), Pei-Lun Tsai (clarinet) and Yukari Uekawa (tenor saxophone).

vector spaces for solo tenor saxophone and live electronics (2019)

The dimensional space was commissioned for the concert of EN RUTA in Tui, Spain and premiered by the Vertixe Sonora Ensemble on 29 September 2019. The instrumentation of the piece is B.Fl, T.Sax, Tp, Tb, Perc, Pf, Accord, E-Gtr, Vln, Vla, Vc and DB.

Yuko Ohara is a UK based composer and researcher. She was awarded an Early Career Research Associateship at the Institute of Musical Research, School of Advanced Study, University of London in 2013/14. She has completed a PhD at Brunel University, and a PGDip at the Royal College of Music and a Bachelor and a Masters Degree at Ferris University, Japan.
Ohara’s pieces have been selected for the BBC Symphony Orchestra Embedded Project, the Exaudi Vocal Ensemble Project, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Soundwaves Festival, the Sound Festival, the Takefu International Music Festival, the Tzili Meudcan International Festival, Reading Session at the International Summer Course in Darmstadt, the Musiikin aika, the International Alliance for Women in Music Annual Concert by Ensemble Mise-en, the Out Hear, the International Composer Pyramid, the duoDorT:Quantulum, the International Double Reed Society Conference and the Composition Workshops with Arditti Quartet and ELISION Ensemble at the Institute of Musical Research.
Ohara had received many commissions by EN RUTA Project with Vertixe Sonora (Spain),  a team of Dreams you dream when you grow up, Suite for a set of drawings (Japan), BBC Symphony Orchestra / Sound and Music Embedded Project, EXAUDI Vocal Ensemble project and etc.
