Waltz of Time [Free DL]

“My Music” by Army of Ghosts is taken from the forthcoming album Totems. A collection of 90s-inspired drum & bass tracks focusing on positivity and respect. Each track is an ode to either a style or a producer that moved or inspired us during the early to mid-nineties.

Totems is a passion project that aims to channel our creativity and spread joy. It pays respect to labels and artists whose originality and creativity inspired us and generations of electronic music fans and producers.

It seems fitting to begin this final Army of Ghosts project by returning to how it started – a collaboration with John from Foul Play.

I met John through Twitter after discovering he was still making music under the name Johnny Halo. Like many of us at the time, he was interested in creating music at a slower tempo than drum & bass, but his love for jungle remained.

We began discussing collaborating, and he sent over stems for a track called Red (or it might have been Redd). Dominic and I sifted through the parts to find our favourites, programmed a chunky broken beat, and then added vocal samples to give it character.

Dominic and I produced the track in my front room and titled it “Deep Redd”. One of many nerdy references we would make in our music to classic horror films that Dom and I have a passion for. We later recorded music together under the names Argento and Romero, referencing two film directors whose work we admire.

The artist name Army of Ghosts comes from recording that track as John also produces under the name Skeleton Army, while Dominic mainly uses Sonar’s Ghost as his artist name, and I also go by the name A Hungry Ghost, due to the name of the blog I used to run.

Army of Ghosts has a fluid line-up, although Dominic or I are the constant members, we don’t always work together on the tracks and other producers have also worked with us, especially on this album, all under the name Army of Ghosts.

“My Music” is a collaboration between Dominic and John, a tribute to tracks that would have been played at clubs like Speed & Swerve in the mid-nineties.

Soulful and uplifting, “My Music” is the perfect way to launch the Totem project.
