ASMR Horror Ambience : This experiment was conducted to see if ASMR could be used in intrusive and terrifying ways. Through the use of binaural beats and subtle repetitive tones, the listener is encouraged to drown out the "noise" as it slowly builds up with intensity. It is then that the listener can feel the most vulnerable and exposed, having been led through a journey both consciously and subconsciously.

Program: Audacity
Effects Used: Amplify, Bass and Treble, Delay, Change Pitch, Change Tempo, Fade In, Fade Out, Pitch Shift, Audio Track Mono Split, and Audio Track Faders (Left to Right, Loud and Soft)... (and some crafty editing).

Experiment 1 - Waiting for the CTA : ASMR Horror Ambience

All sounds are created from scratch by me except for the swings toward the end. This track contains 3 acousmetized and heavily modified sentences: 1. I don't know what you want. 2. Why don't you listen? and 3. Where am I and what is happening?

I wanted the emotions behind those sentences to retain its value as the sounds were being paulstretched, given a tremolo, given a pitch change, and phased. This way the sound retains a human characteristic while not being associated with a human at all... In turn, it sounds like wailing ghosts in the middle of a cemetery.

To add to the ambiance of the piece and an ASMR element, I added soft whispering of a ghastly poem... juxtaposed against swinging swings as it gets closer to the end of the track.

Experiment 2 - Wailing In The Night : ASMR Horror Ambience

It is exactly what the title says: Somewhere Over the Rainbow meets Poltergeist.

I wanted to learn how to use some of the effects that they used on some of the voices in the poltergeist so I did some research and realized that the process was way easier than I thought (give or take a few pitch changes... and the fact that it's audacity): reverb, reverse, reverb, reverse, delay, reverse, delay, reverse, pitch change!

It took some time figuring it out, but here is the final product...

Kudos to my roommate (Danica Jordan) who let me record her lovely voice and allowed me to bastardize it and make her sound super creepy and totally not human anymore. :)For that, I used the Audio Technica studio kit hooked up to a Zoom DAR. She sat fairly close to the mic while I wore headphones and checked the levels. If there's any advice I'd give myself, it is this: Get a better mic stand next time. (I had the thought, but I didn't listen to myself.)

Experiment 3 - Somewhere Over The Poltergeist: ASMR Horror Ambience

This is pretty straight forward...
"How I feel without my morning coffee."

I basically drown everybody out while they're being loud and obnoxious... or at least I feel like they are until I drink my coffee and can engage in normal conversation again.

Experiment 4 - Without My Morning Coffee : ASMR Horror Ambience

A collection of sounds from the Sound and Sonorous Objects course... We all went out and collected sounds for an hour, and returned with a plethora of things to work with. We then had to work together to create a piece, and I took the project home and finished it off the best of my ability in the few hours I had to work on it.
