Auparavant, les compositions de Jean-Paul Dub étaient réalisées en groupe (comme sur Step by Step en 2009). Ici, Pablo propose un dub plus introspectif mais toujours dans une continuité musicale et une unité electro-dub. New Cuts est un concentré de multiples influences, reggae ou jungle, mais dont le dub reste évidemment la dominante. Les remixes, en forme d'hommage, sont à l'honneur : de Zenzile à Gainsbourg en passant par Masenka. Le melodica est de plus en plus présent et les samples en français, anglais ou espagnol donnent à chaque composition des indices narratifs. Si New Cuts ne résulte pas de collaborations directes avec d'autres musiciens, de nombreux enregistrements des précédents projets ont été intégrés, mais cette fois sous forme de samples (violon, clavier ou harmonica). Une autre nouveauté pour ce cinquième téléchargement, c'est la présence de pistes video dans le fichier ZIP. En effet, trois clips réalisés par Hugo et Vj Pansketel sont disponibles. Les créations, dans un style cartoon , sont totalement originales et proposent la découverte ou la re-découverte de l'univers visuel de Jean-Paul Dub, déjà diffusé en live. dernier truc : Certains morceaux de New Cuts ont déjà été joué en live à plusieurs reprises (Montpellier, Nancy, Bruxelles..). (inversement déjà été plutôt que été déjà). La formule live est composée de Pablo au mixages en direct, yAyoLand à la basse et VJ Pansketel à la video. La basse apporte une dynamique en live, qui, avec la video, donne tout le sens des compositions de Pablo. New Cuts sort en téléchargement-libre sur le label périgourdins Marée Bass dont le but est de partager et soutenir les musiques à Bass amplifiées ainsi que la culture Sound System.

THE ROUGH GUIDE TO PSYCHEDELIC CAMBODIA

1960s and early-1970s Cambodian pop is a treasure trove of kookily re-worked takes on the best beat and psychedelic music of the day. Digging into the archive, one cannot disconnect these golden tracks from the horrifying history of human and cultural genocide in twenty-first century Cambodia. Pop music was squashed by Pol Pot’s evil fisted dictatorship and in recent years has been literally re-born. The Khmer Rouge administration destroyed hundreds of master recordings, reel-to-reels, vinyls and cassettes and murdered many musicians in cold blood. This Rough Guide is significant as it contributes to preserving and spreading awareness of Cambodia’s uniquely cool pop music in relation and understanding to its battered social history. 

This introductory compilation includes songs by stars of the day Sinn Sisamouth, Ros Sereysothea, Pan Ron and others who sadly later perished at the hands of Pol Pot’s regime. Sinn Sisamouth was nicknamed the Elvis of Cambodia and wrote thousands of songs as well as covering the well-known western pop songs of the period. He penned new verses for songs like ‘House of the Rising Sun’, ‘Black Magic Woman’ and ‘Sugar Sugar’. The life and fate of the period's great diva, Ros Sereysothea, was one of difficult times and failed relationships, which were reflected in the sad and soulful ballads for which she has subsequently become celebrated.

This Rough Guide also presents the retro sounds of present-day throwback bands Dengue Fever and Cambodian Space Project. These groups riff on the hypnotic grooves of yesterday while also composing their own original tracks in the genre. Dengue Fever are a Los Angeles-based six-piece whose popularity is soaring. Their humorous track ‘Tiger Phone Card’ tackles the modern-day problem of maintaining a trans-Atlantic long-distance relationship. 

Discover the vintage psychedelic rhythms of swinging Cambodia on this compilation. This deeply cool music is seeping into the consciousness of a wider world who can’t resist these irresistible resurging grooves.

Créé par deux frères, ODG est né à Tours en France en 2004. Puisant directement son inspiration dans le “french-dub” des années 90, le projet se fait connaître peu à peu par ses E.p disponibles en libre téléchargemet sur son propre net label Original Dub Gathering (www.odgprod.com) qui comporte de nos jours plus de 40 références en libre partage. Depuis 2007 le duo est devenu trio, permettant au groupe de dévoiler une réelle fusion de styles, un live à la fois électronique et instrumental fondé d’une part sur le “dub sound system” à l’anglaise, et d’autre part sur le style “électro-éthno” français. Après de nombreux concerts aux cotés d’artistes internationalement reconnus comme Horace Andy, Mad Professor, Iration Steppa, Dj Aphrodite, Mungos Hifi… , ODG travaille aux côtés de Biga Ranx sur 6 tracks de son premier album On Time. Fin 2011 le groupe annonce la sortie de son nouveau projet, triptyque épique retraçant les différentes expérimentations musicales du trio, la première partie nommée Bad Side signe une entrée en matière résolument dubstep, un teaser est dors et déjà disponible sur www.odgprod.com. 

1. ONDUBGROUND - BANKARI (RMX Heshi)

Australian-born Polish singer Nadya Golski spent time as a teenager in Papua New Guinea, living with the Gamuga Roglombo tribesmen. Her first release on Monkey is in a Papua New Guinean language with a balkan feel being remixed by Paris-based DJ Click.

Golski divides her time between Australia and Europe and Nadya and she and her musicians have performed at many festivals worldwide including Montreux Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, Sziget Festival, WomAdelaide and Woodford Folk Festival.

She has several albums to her name, some of which will be re-released on Monkey in the coming months. 

Woipa Woipa originally featured on her album Mezza Luna but is also included on the recently released compilation Gypsy Fever which celebrates the Eastern European music scene in Australia and New Zealand.
