I arrived in London in early ‘71 and landed on the Holland Road, Shepherd’s Bush not long after.
My good pal Julie Lewis (from Durham) with whom I’d worked with in Sydney, had digs there and invited me to stay. Nonetheless I found it a challenging place to be after Sydney, Summer, beaches, family and gigs. Amongst Julie’s record collection was Nick Drake’s 'Bryter Later' which brought solace to me as I often felt very alone and completely at a loss as to how to navigate London town.

Years later I was to learn that Freddie Mercury was living just a few doors down from us on the Holland Road...no I never knew him...but when I wrote the lyric it seemed apt to pay homage to Freddie and our collective dreams. I’m so happy with Cripple Club’s interpretation of the lyrics, bringing to life a musical collage that depicts the highs and lows of living on the Holland Road through my first cold winter! From my heart; thank you Terry & Gary Reeves; you are two soulful & gifted brothers; I feel so indebted to you both and to Hans Albers for his powerful musical contributions. I recently attended a composer's workshop with the instruction of creating a song based off of specific pitches tied to letters in a name. I chose M-O-L-L-Y (Gb, G#, D#, D#, C#) for my inspiration and created this for my daughter.

Idea is to alternate singing the lines referring to each of our artist names

Note: Lyrics are built on our artist names written down the side. For that reason sense is found in each line but possibly not so much in the lyrics as a whole. I'm cool with that...

The alternating vocals I think will work best in unison towards the end of phrases

Love robbing tempos! I recommend not listening to the tune you are taking the tempo from if you can... It's clean as a whistle and a nice link is made anyways

Jodie

I am a singer-songwriter who mainly focuses on vocals and piano. I was influenced by artists like Tori Amos and Agnes Obel  and  I  grew up in a musical family between folk and cabaret.  I write both English and Dutch songs, sometimes quite literal, sometimes hard to understand, sometimes wordless, but always poetic!
I also give singing and piano lessons and lead choirs.
