A little over a year ago, my father died, and his passing undid my reluctance to put both of my feet back into the pool of making, or at least performing, something musical. I knew that, if nothing else, I wanted to do something special to give him a proper send-off. He'd always wanted me to get back in the musical saddle, so, being too late to give him that pleasure in life, it was then or never.

I broke out my semi-acoustic guitar and this old poem I had written in late 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎. I originally worked on a different melody that never landed, so I chose to come up with a new one, which I did by singing whatever came to mind into my phone's voice recorder. It worked well enough to act as a springboard to the final result.

The chord shapes are simple enough -- mostly the 𝐃 major shape -- but I tried to make the most of the limitation. About a week and extremely sore fretboard fingers later, I played it in front of everyone over the 𝐏𝐀 system supplied by the funeral agent, nervous it would sound terrible and I would mess it up. Rehearsals had been hit or miss. But it worked out well.

This demo is a little embellished, but only by about 𝟓%. I added a small transition to the instrumental break with a twee overdub thrown in to sweeten things in the smallest possible way. My vocal is not great, but it'll do for now.
