(3/3) When I started this series, I was feeling very sad. I used these mixes as a creative outlet. I needed to finish the series. And then, my baby Croakheads exploded. I wanted to share with you the hard work that went into that… And say a HUGE thank you!

When I started Croakheads, I expected rejections. Instead, everyone wanted to help. Our resident team was keen to get involved. Within months we were streaming, our logo was being shared, and we were asked to do our first collective takeover by Dubsquatches and Impulse Audio. I couldn’t believe it.

In May, we had a Soundcloud and Instagram. Now? Two collective takeovers for headline acts like Kara, The Foundation, Blooom, Ruth Royall and VOE. We’re running our first “Croakheads Invites Collectives” event on 1st August in Bristol. A second event (14th August) is being announced soon. We just booked another (19th September) with a Midlands collective. And we launched Croakheads North with an amazing new team. Where did all that come from?!

I’ll tell you: hard work and help from our community. We worked our asses off. Not just admin. Everyone. Long hours, long nights, long calls… I’ve cried over this project a few times. Tia’s handmaking merch. Lee put up posters all over Bristol. Friends are taking annual leave and travelling for hours to help with flyers and promo. Community is everything. We’ve built something really, really special. We are forever in your debt. Without you it’s not possible.

I hope you enjoy this mix. I went back to my roots: liquid funk and jazz. There’s a dub I made that John won’t let me release yet as it's unfinished (because I’m a gremlin). This mix isn’t “bouncy euphoric” because I still think about “you” from 1/2 of this series. When the laptop shuts, I wish I could call you. Tell you what we are doing. I should thank you, too. You were there when we started. I just wish you were still a part of it, too.

Dear Mix Diary,
Nearly four weeks since I wrote a mix diary entry! Croakheads is doing a takeover for the Proelium Audio/Basscamp London Sunset Party to support Blooom/VOE/Ruth Royall. So I’m using this as an opportunity to help last-minute promote their event!
Oh god, last month’s recap, let’s go…
* Launched Croakheads North! (We kept that one quiet, hey?)
* Played MAIN room at Volks, Brighton - bucket list moment!
* Supported Jam Thieves at the Shape Up Sounds/Infected Events night in Torquay.
* Met some really cool people in Torquay that have become friends.
* More Code South Radio adventures (and sausage rolls).
* Croakheads is playing for the Sunset Party takeover to support Blooom/VOE/Ruth Royall.
* Announced Planet Wax Croakheads Invites night on 14th August.
* About to announce a collective takeover night on 19th September with a headliner.
* Organised my 30th joint birthday event in London with friends. Poster is amazing.
* Met up with Charis who gave me some basic production lessons/took headshots.
* Formed an amazing Ambassadors team that are super dedicated.
* Those Ambassadors and admin launched our streaming service! Thank you!
* Reorganised and restructured the entire team of Croakheads… Busy!
* Some more edits mixes with great DJs.
* Connected with crazy amounts of collectives. I’ve lost count.
* Went to a great Overview event at Volks and met new people/saw lovely friends.
* Put up our event posters all over Stokes Croft/Bristol for our event soon.
* Met Mark from Basement 45 and their venue team. Nice people.
* Completed the DJ competition and selected a winner.
* Celebrated Bacchus’ birthday in Ware. Beautiful day. Beautiful people.
* As always, spent loads of time with friends and great people.

Mix Diary Entry 6 | Sunset Party Promo | Liquid Funk/Liquid DnB Mix

A cyclical narrative mix based on the BBC film Threads (1984) and the video game and TV series "Fallout" by Interplay Productions (1997). This mix is designed to be a warning. The mix follows the story of a nuclear bomb simulation, followed by the devastating fallout and nuclear winter caused by the war. The mix then builds up to real 2025 interviews from recent events, leading to fake BBC broadcasts to go back to the beginning. History repeating itself.

The last composition in this mix was made by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who was an anti-war activist. It is related to the horrors and devastation caused by Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
