A beautiful performance of Arctic Blooms by Alkali Collective (Halifax, Dec 7, 2021).

Arctic Blooms

Trying some new instrument sounds and amp/pedalboard setups, and looking for more good "acoustic metal" sounds - sounds from a semi-hollow (or in this case, hollow) acoustic-electric guitar which can work in a high-gain metal mix.

Here we have 2 different pickups of the acoustic guitar (EM and piezo) going into 2 seperate amps. The bass and banjo get the same treatment. For the drums, I decided to keep it simple and solid, with sidestick snare and hi-hat only.

I don't think a kick drum is needed to be the harmonic foundation of an arrangement like this, but feel free to imagine or add one.

Just a little something we whipped up! The art is by @brandi-vera-gullick, and some of the sounds used in the song were made by feeding this image to AudioPaint. The rest comes from a guitar, bass, and various gongs simulated with Rex Basterfield's new Quilcom SIM-GONG plugin! Awwww yeeeah.

Existential Slap

The moment where all expectations, foreshadowings of the future and preconceptions of past breaks down by an external force.

With this exhibition students from UDK, international and local artists come together to show works of performance, paintings, music and more. All artist will share their way of capturing and creating a moment by being in the now. No matter how exhilarating, uncomfortable, static or in pain the moment can be, it is possible to find the freedom to be in it; The freedom of stripping oneself from worries of future and weight of past to attain the power to handle existential slaps.

I had a Brazilian nightmare on my new keyboard the night before the sinister  elections.
