Echos from a liquid memory, by Carincur, comes from a transdisciplinary piece that crosses performance, concert and audiovisual installation, simultaneously exploring visual, sound and digital arts. The musical composition is taken to the limits of its possibilities, through manipulation and processing of submerged and propagated digital sound and image through water. This action creates a new universe, a new ecosystem, where interactions of organic and non-organic matter create changes in the environment, while physical and digital coexist in an abstract narrative, between a liquid fragmented memory and the perception of ourselves projected in time and space.

This piece focus on the fragmentation of memory, space, time and, consequently, it reflects the volatile memory of the human being's existence. In order to do this, it was necessary to create an instrument - an acrylic water tank combined with hydrophones - that made the exploration of subaquatic sounds possible. This is an immersive experience where water refers to the liquidity of memory and, consequently, to identity.

Still, it is the culmination of the artist’s long journey, who has been through several experiences with the prototype of this project in various spaces in Lisbon.

“Visit the interior parts of the earth; by rectification you will find the hidden stone.” is the expression that we find in the acronym V.I.T.R.I.O.L (Visita Interiora Terrae, Rectificando, Invenies Occultum Lapidem), first track from the album SHAM. There is a belief that the hidden stone is the matter with the power to transform all metals into gold or silver, the medicine to cure all diseases and the elixir of long life that guarantees the longevity of any living being. On this LP, Belfast-based artist Dislover starts with one element: Blue Vitriol, copper sulfate used in a wide range of industries. Surrendering ourselves to the voices of an inner restlessness and to a lively architecture of metallic movements. We are brought down by a spiral of colliding elements and materials that mutate without any functional reason, they are only active as a result of their existence. Dislover doesn't want to design a purpose on the machines that haunt these tracks, in turn, encourages them to drop a certain exoskeleton so that they grow bigger, as is the case with Sanctum. We cannot expect an easy journey in this introspection, seeing ourselves in our most impermeable form, we are defined not by how we see ourselves or would like to see ourselves, but by an intrinsic essence that is stimulated by those who observe us. Here, through the spirit of machines, Dislover encourages us to expel our deepest self.

There is a latent unfamiliarity in Nature that moves, which runs through the deepest fissures of our own uncertainties and claims the artifacts we extract from it. "Seiva", the new EP by azul-revolto, is engulfed in naturalistic mysteries and caustic broken rhythms, electronically exposing the submerged and vigilant roots of organic sounds. Promptly it leads us across a ritualistic and melodic beat into our own body’s confrontation place: the dance floor. 

In this EP azul-revolto touches absolute dominance of the natural order and of all the forces that work the Universe over Man - the only being that doesn’t dominate itself - where under its skin the sap (“Seiva”) will boil and a new undiscovered Nature will open up.

Six tracks, six extractable moments from a single continuum with an uncertain beginning and end. In Interference Waves (ZABRA011), the Greek producer Daphne X places us in a subliminal ground, something like an underwater or uterine nature, a medium in which, we quote her, “there was no possibility of an 'I' detachable from its environment.” The sensorial prevails over the rational, the non-verbal over the verbal, in short, an hypothetical unmediated experience of pure continuity with the world gains consistency under the psychodynamics of sonic stimulation. When defining stylistic affinities, think of what is being done in labels such as West Mineral, Motion Ward or Experiences Ltd. - something still unnamed, but one of the most significant sound aesthetics of our post-Chain Reaction/Basic Channel times.

Spectrum Awareness is a trio comprised of Inês Carincur (voice and electronics), João Pedro Fonseca (loops and visuals) and João Valinho (drums). The project, which would end up integrating ZABRA Records' colective, has its origins by the end of 2019, with a presentation at Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea do Chiado, within the scope of Temps d'Images Festival.
With their respective trajectories and with distinct connections to music, plastic arts and performance art, the three share an impulse to push, blend and break aesthetic boundaries, turning the process itself into the outcome of creation. It was, thus, natural that the initial focus behind the collaboration was live performance, taking on the contingency that improvisation entails, as opposed to developing a composed, planned structure beforehand. What's presented here is a recording of one of those performances.

There will be a set of atmospheric conditions that are the starting point of each test. The scenography created in the live setting are a reflexion of it, as are the initial moments of each piece. Given the tone, a semi-controled process unfolds, with synchrony at its limit and of unexpected results. Over the course of five and a half minutes, one wanders amidst dense atmospheres, metal in entropy and a shifting drum kick in a somewhat organic repetition that distinguishes the ritualistic tone of an ancestral mythology or the elegiac motifs of forsaken metallurgical plants. At one point in time, a voice is heard, something on the cusp of operatic chanting, perpetually disturbed by indistinguishable vocalizations, hostages of a never ending feedback loop. We're left uncertain of what is archive material and what is played or sung live. Everything arrives at us interstitially, as fragments of a whole which cannot fully be restored.

This is a work about the inevitable acceptance of ephemerality, about the longing for something fleeting that we never fully experience. In one idea, Aires encapsulates the spirit of his new release in his own name “Daylight Fireworks” (ZABRA 013), an EP inspired by an image from which everything sprang: that of “the surprise and the fragility of something as improbable and ethereal as daylight fireworks.” Almost as a continuous exercise from beginning to end, there are many small sound events that unfold along these four tracks, like small films or degraded postcards from which only fragments can be extracted. Assuming that is diffuse the line that separates the obsolescence of any recording media from the irreducible weaknesses of human memory, Aires always seems to prefer the elegy of what could have been than the absolute certainty of an exhaustive reconstruction. The titles indicate this imaginary, but it is the sound motifs that shape it, between seas of static, floods of bleeps, lost arpeggios, haunted vocal samples or latent percussions that are only in our head. For a moment, it comes to mind the witch house of Holy Other or Chuck Person, the Basinskian filters or the recompositions of Leyland Kirby. All distilled by an intimate vision that can now be crossed by anyone.
