I heard about Chiptunes = WIN thanks to Nate Horsfall, the guy who always draws the cover art for them, and who drew the Dwelling of Duels contest banners for years. When I met him at MAGFest in early 2015, he suggested I submit stuff to this ridiculously festive album, as Prime Legacy, that I released back in 2014, featured songs that could have been perfect fits.

Journey is my first release after a three-year-long hiatus. This is the best thing i've produced to date. More - and better - to come. I hope you enjoy.

Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 6

Journey

This is the result of my research on how to write songs with constraints similar to those of SEGA Genesis game soundtracks. A final boss battle theme specifically designed for one of the games I'm currently developing as a side-project(a shmup, obviously), and also a love letter to the "Justice Ray" tracks (part 1 to 5) by Hyakutaro Tsukumo.

So this is "The Light Of Justice" - my very own "Justice Ray Part 6", featured as track #22 on the amazing 6th volume of the chiptune compilation known as Chiptunes = WIN, that you can grab here :

This song is meant to symbolize the final stretch of a big dangerous adventure, parting ways with old friends along the way. 
If this was part of a video game, it would play on the last level before the final boss ;)

Made in Reaper using many many freeware plugins, no paid plugins used. Oh also a guitar, i guess. 

Emulating various classic chips (SID, 2A03, SPC700, YMF262), using samplerate reduction and bit reduction on some other instruments to get that nice cozy aliased Amiga feel. The tune was made with 8 note polyphony and certain size limitations in mind, including sampled chords, so that it can potentially be ported to my favorite soundchip, the SNES SPC700, without much loss. (Yes this seems crazy, but i can asure you this fits in 8 channels + 1 "channel" with stuff streamed to the echo buffer from ROM).
