Waters is a quartet in three movements inspired by various bodies of water around the globe and the histories and sorts of imagined personalities they have, written for and performed by Momenta. (Three Movements I. Haraz, II. Gulf, III. Caspian)

Upon all the living and the dead addresses loss of loved ones before their time, a deep emotional trauma, and how the composer learned to move through it. The death of those that are so important to us leaves us with a sense of loss—not just of that person, but of what they could have been, a sort of stolen good. The text and the piece overall are both based on the idea that it does not have to be interpreted as a loss. Instead, we must consider what they brought to the world while they were still in it, how it affected those around them, and how that good ripples out into the cosmos, long after any of us will be here to see it.

Upon all the living and the dead - for chamber orchestra

O, My Soul! is a work inspired by some of my favorite encounters with communal singing. The first movement, ”like the grass” is based on the first psalm and psalm tone I sang as a member of an Anglican church choir, which has much sentimental value to me; my family was Episcopalian when I was a child. The second movement, ”Like an eagle’s” is inspired by the kinetic nature of modern a cappella. “Rolling River,” movement 3, probably speaks for itself. It draws from the American folk tune "Shenandoah," paying homage to the rich choral tradition I feel truly fortunate to sing in.

Keening is the Irish practice of vocal lament at a funeral or wake. Caoineadh was written in close collaboration with Stephanie and Rocío. It explores a few of the many faces of grief.
