steady now...steady now...
Christmas Eve out in the barn
Checkin’ horses, goats, and sheep,
The wind was sharp, the night was hard
And the cold was hitting deep
I stacked the hay, I checked the doors
Rubbed their necks, their backs, their ears
The temperature was fallin’ fast
And I could feel the weight of fear
I went to fetch another load
Of firewood from the frozen shed
And just outside, where snow had slowed
I looked above and raised my head
A single star I’d never seen
Hung quiet in the winter sky
And for a moment, like a dream
The clouds rolled in and drifted by
And all I could think of was Bethlehem long ago
A child wrapped in wonder, the manger we all know
No grand parade, no golden light—
Just warmth that held the world that night
And maybe prayers still find their way
To barns like ours on Christmas Day
I stepped back in, the wind was gone
The animals were calm and still
No restless hooves, no panicked bleat
Just peace that felt almost unreal
The frost had eased, the air was still
The chill had softened on the skin
And though the storm had shown it's will
It seemed like grace had wandered in
I didn’t hear a voice or bell
No angel song, no tale to tell
But something passed between the beams
That made the barn feel like a dream
And in that hush, I knew for sure—
We’d been blessed by something pure
