Captivating soulstress Awen returns with her latest spellbinding work, the far-reaching and profoundly moving album, Redemption. French-Senegalese artist Awen's powerful voice and searingly personal musical message continues to win her admirers from the realms of Afro-house, neo-soul, and spiritual trip-hop. The new album is typically sincere in tone and production, with many of the scintillating songs contained within inspired by the recent arrival of Awen's first child and her journey into motherhood. Negotiating themes of race, identity, heritage, and mortal toil, the deeply engaging music is rich with imagery and emotion throughout the collection.

In a subtle departure from her Afro-house roots, much of the music arrives as an introspective meditation. From the melancholy poetry of opener 'The Ashes Fall' to the stirring cinematic wonder of 'Live Out Loud', each track tells its own story, weaving vivid imagery into carefully sculpted sonic landscapes as the album elegantly unfurls. Working with a far-reaching selection of producers including revered talents Cehashi, Enoo Napa, Candy Man, and Liva K – as well as rising stars Statix, Kingflava, Demaya, and Kaargo – Awen shows her willingness to take musical risks in a quest to conjure fresh and unexpected sounds from fresh sonic perspectives. These collaborations coupled with the sincerity of her approach and gravity of her lyrical and vocal performance ensure Redemption is genuinely memorable and bursts with tantalizing surprises.

“I started this album thinking I was writing it for my son,” says Awen. “I wanted to tell him about his ancestors, the grandparents that he will never meet. also about myself, the struggles that I had growing up. Maybe my songs would help him feel understood and see one day. With the writing of each song, I realized that I was actually going through a healing process that was long overdue.” Displaying power and vulnerability, stunning musicality, and luminous vocal performance throughout the album shows Awen in dazzlingly unfettered creative form, with this collection she presents here nothing short of unforgettable.
