I've been a ridiculous fanboy of his music and artistic drive for a long time---we've tried to collaborate a few times and I'm so excited we finally got to! The first cut I saw of Color didn't have any sound, it was a completely blank slate, but even though it was silent the film's story, and incredible acting by Obehi Janice, was anything but quiet.  I knew the music needed to feel organic to the environment, to grow out of the picture and be felt before it was heard. I wanted it to be restless--ceaseless in it's need to communicate something, just like the character.  So you open your favorite DAW and look through your sounds and...ploop.  Orchestra tones were too grand, piano by itself was too present and plucky...the music needed to sit, shape, outline, fill in, brush...it needed to paint.  I didn't have any paintbrushes in the house, so I turned to a cello and a bow and thought surely we can make brushing sounds with that.

I'm definitely not a cello player.  My efforts are laughable, but I took a couple hours and made a whole bunch of 'brushing' sounds with the bow on different areas of the cello.  Holding the bow incredibly ineffectively, brushing it up and down on the strings, sul pont, sul tasto, everything and anything I could think of; and the result is 80% of all the sounds you hear in this score.  Always, always, take a moment to make something new and unique for your project.  Those couple hours of sampling fueled the creative tank for the whole rest of the project.
