Fun little ripper composed almost entirely on a real, honest-to-goodness Juno 106 and an excellent VST of the Linn Drum called VPROM by AlyJamesLab, with a tiny bit of help from U-He's Repro-5.

Not sure what, but this reminds me of SOMETHING.

Last Christmas I Gave You My Copy of Final Fantasy

Something I started writing a while back that kind of took on a life of it's own recently, only after recording real drums under a piece of it. Strange how something you think was a dead idea can end up really inspiring you. Also, I love drumming. So it's fun to put real drums on one of my own compositions. Anyway, I surprised myself a little with this. Glad I dug it up and dug back in.

Trip or Fall

As with most things this took many obsessive days and many turns from hopeful to hopeless, inspired to inspirationless. I originally was gonna post this and say it didn't quite do what I had hoped but, you know what? I think I made it work through all the pitfalls. It's all about learning anyway.

A Touch of Derring-Do

Sometimes things stick around, and sometimes they disappear. Where do they go? Honestly - who's to say?

Tried to keep it simple and thematic. Mostly an exploration of the angles I could take with a single melody.

The Mystery Of The Disapperaring Quandary

Playing with a drum loop I made, layering some stuff, trying not to be precious. Yes I played everything. Mostly I was looking for an opportunity to fiddle with IK's Tascam 388 plug-in. 

It's my birthday and the gift I am giving myself is freeing myself from wondering about this particular song ad nauseam so I can move on to something more worthy of my creative attention.

Feelin' Fine

Tried my hand at writing classic video game fight music. Heavily inspired, as might be obvious, by Nobuo Uematsu and also Jerry Goldsmith (and probably some Manaka Kataoka for good measure).

Who Will Win?

This ended up sounding like if mars volta wrote a theme song for a megaman and/or castlevania level.

Toxic Axolotl

This is a re-orchestration of an old song. I realized in doing the re-work that it reminds me of music from the game extreme g. Suffice it to say, I love drama.

Fenrir! Rise!

Name inspired by a recent trip to Rottnest Island while on tour with my band.

The 'chorus' of this song I actually wrote in high school (over 20 years go - wow I am getting old!). It popped into my head recently and I decided to try a different look than the original. Pretty happy with how it came together. Very clearly inspired by Setsuo Yamamoto, Yuki Iwai and their cohort. But, you know, combined with the other crap rattling around in my brain. 

Earthquake Quokka

I love Robin Williams, and though this wasn't initially designed to be a tribute, I am glad it kind of happened to morph into one. Bowser would obviously be Albert.

I accidentally wrote this while my band recorded our 5th record. Our Producer, John, had this amazing, grimy sounding Celeste in his, at the time, yet-to-be-completed B Studio. I was idly wandering / warming up for backup vocals and started noodling and happened upon the extremely Mario-adjacent ascending melody / harmony that features (I even put the original phone recording of that melody at the end of the track). Anyway, I decided to run with it. Recording all the pieces of the latin percussion section was very fun. Bonus points if you hear the (fairly blatant) Beach Boys reference.
