For over a decade, Whitecat has been wholeheartedly committed to his musical identity. Relentlessly pursuing deep, undulating rhythms and dreamy sonic textures, Whitecat’s main obsession will always be the art of playing records. His tastes lean firmly towards stripped-back selections – always with an unmistakable groove. 

This sleek sound that Whitecat is distinguished by emerged upon his discovery of a new wave of minimalist sounds emerging from Romania and its European surrounds. Already armed with a technically immaculate skillset, Tim Reeves-Smith quickly became driven to cultivating this mesmerizing corner of electronic music in Australia’s sonic landscape. This passion has since manifested in Whitecat’s reputation as one of the city's—and the country's—most respected artists in the realm of minimal music.

Through co-founding local brand Mantra Collective, Whitecat has created opportunities to showcase both local and international talent – through regular parties, podcasts and label releases. Whether through his long standing former radio show at important local station FBi Radio, current radio show at community radio, Orbital-Radio, or his time spent slinging records at Something Else Record Store, Whitecat has humbly and diligently established himself as one of the most important contributing figures in Sydney’s music community. 

Aside from his regular schedule that sees him frequent lineups in Sydney and Melbourne, Whitecat has also played in Japan a handful of times, with appearances at respected clubbing institutions (like Dommune) both solo and under the Mantra Collective act.

We came across PRS sometime last year and instantly fell in love with their sound. 
Slowly rising through the ranks in Amsterdam, these two friends will surely be a name to remember in the future.

With so many talented family and friends, it makes sense to showcase some of this talent in a series of mixes titled Close To Home. 
First up is co-founder James, dubbed Shandy by those who know. After many a lockdown living room b2b2b2b with the Leeds family, we thought it was time to share some of the sounds with the outside world. Shandy's style emanates that of someone who's normally on the other side of the decks. With melodic synths, rolling bass-lines and all-round tight percussion, we're sure this will get your toe tapping.

We remember our first live glimpse into Deyan's selection during Wake Up Stran-Jah while wondering the forest hills around the beach and the feeling of vibrating sounds resonating with the waves only left us craving for more. 
The natural continuation of that was to have him on board as a guest Dj, and damn that was one hell of a night.

So now finally, we present his mix as the 13th episode of the series and we could not be happier that is today. 
Carefully crafted and with a sleek attention to detail, as we can hear in his Dj sets as well, he stays true to his authentic style and takes us on a 76min voyage through his inspirations.

It has been a rough year for everybody and it's still hard to wrap our heads around some of the things that have happened but music will always be a sole provider of soul centering and that is something we are never loosing.
