This is a fantrack for one of the best books i've ever read, "Waltz of the Starving Sailor's Son" (the second part, specifically).  I really wish i could capture the essence of the story in the most faithful way, but at least i'm happy with this work. I can understand if you don't recognize this title, as it's kind of old and obscure, but i'd appreciate if you could do some digging and give it a read.

"We need your help!" Protested Avery, searching for the king's eyes within his stern look, hoping for a sign of compassion. "It's what our mother-" She said before falling silent. Sündenbock had struck the ground with his trident.
"Enough." He said. "You come into my palace, beg for my riches, and dare to mention that scoundrel?" His deep voice echoed through the halls.

"Pipe down! She's no scoundrel!" Cried out Simon, as he stood up to face the king.

Sündenbock scoffed, "You foolish child. It's been so long, she has surely forgotten you exist."

"She did not." Calmly stated Avery. "She must have had problems at sea, but we know she will come back!" Said the girl confidently.

Sündenbock had lost his patience. "She left you to ROT!" He asserted, in one final scream of misery.
"...Let us end this." He muttered. "I challenge you to a fight. If you win, I will give you what you asked for."

The siblings looked in awe.

"If you lose... You die."
