The pulse of the drums change in this song from every 3 8th triplet notes to every 4 8th triplet notes, giving the illusion that the song has changed tempo.  Different layers of instruments also stretched out to the different pulses, so depending on which track is listened to, the song can either feel like its 4/4 with triplet notes, or 12/4 played straight.   Similarly, the polyrhythm in the middle can feel like 7/12 or 14/8, depending on the pulse of the drums.

A synthesis of ideas from throughout the year.   The lyrics stem from the Chinese translation of Cloud Atlas.
