Next up in our mix series is the talented DJ and producer, hailing from the blossoming Naarm-scene - Zara. Guided by a profound state of introspection, Zara utilises intricate rhythms and deep atmospheres to draw out expressive qualities in music. Whether it’s IDM, drum and bass, or techno, the Kinesis label-head fuses it all with an enigmatic sense of delicacy. Embracing music production as personal catharsis, she developed a distinct sound at the crossroads of the calm and the energetic. 

In this mix Zara, takes us a journey ranging from peak-time spirits to more mind-leaning energies. Zara showcases how she traverses the polyrhythmic and trippy in innovative ways - blending it psy trance, brainy tek, psychedelic techno and broken syncopated beats. The first comes from Pure Space label head and Eora artist Andy Garvey who flips Sap Speaker into a jittering 4x4 bass feuelled expedition.

Plus Naarm artist Zara casts meditative propulsive bass through the ethereal tones and natural sounds of Root Mender.

Both remixes complement their original predecessor, though naturally expanding the sonic realms that the EP stretches.

Zara is a rising Australian DJ, producer and label head, with a sound that traverses the polyrhythmic and psychedelic. Zara has releases on labels such as Animalia, Salt Mines, Pure Space and more. Her sets have been turning heads within the international scene, playing at institutions like De School, Tresor, and Spazio Disponsible’s label showcase.

For MNMT 429 Zara presents a two-hour swirling vortex, effortlessly weaving together eclectic selections into a seamless deep trip for the mind and body.

Mostra (@mostrabcn) is an independent, small-format festival of avant-garde and experimental electronic music which emerged by the end of 2021 as a counterpoint to the macro-festivals and the overcrowded, commercial and impersonal offerings of other large events held in Barcelona. Mostra will be celebrating its fourth edition from 17 to 20 April in 2025.

Eora’s dub-techno tastemaker Command D and Naarm’s harmoniser of the emotive and abstract Zara combine for Gravity Reset, a collaborative four-tracker on Butter Sessions.

Both producers are equally nestled with love into Australia’s underground, with releases on beloved labels like Animalia and Pure Space. Command D also boasts refined live sets heaving in sub-bass, while Zara's celebrated for boundary-blurring productions and her Kinesis imprint championing the local scene. On Gravity Reset, they meet in lockstep, delivering trance-inducing offerings rooted in a shared love of rhythm, space and subtlety seeded with dub minimalism and introspective, tech-driven sound design.The titular track 'Gravity Reset' sets the tone with a deep, persistent kick, reverberated snares, and a low-end that twists and lifts. 'Cascadia' introduces pad warmth and light percussion, where laughter weaves into the mix, adding a human touch to the dub-soaked cut. '2Pulse' brings expressive congas and dubby psychedelia into dialogue with the wubs, before The Fog closes in a haze of phasing hats and musky bass.

A collaboration for the ages. What they mean when they say #deep.

HbA-21: Various Artists - Refraction of Light Vol. II (Amniote Editions 2025)

Amniote Editions resurfaces with the HbA capsule, a dual release pairing the debut album from Hasvat Informant and his Intellagama moniker with a 21-track digital compilation, that coils through ambient, IDM, experimental, techno, trance and beyond. 

Refraction of Light Vol. II gathers 21 artists linked by place yet divergent in expression, charting a fluid passage of moods, drifting from first light to nightfall. 

The compilation’s framing draws from its title: like light refracting on the horizon of a long drive, it bends shifting sounds and perspectives into a shared vision shaped by distance, connection, and the landscapes in between.

In the same way, Amniote Editions’ capsules provide fertile ground for music to evolve — nurturing divergent practices, experimental forms, and cross-genre encounters. Refraction of Light Vol. II extends this lineage, binding artists through place and possibility, and echoing so-called Australia’s role as a cradle of creative life within its worldwide snakeweb.

Conceived on the land of the Gadigal peoples of the Eora Nation, the project acknowledges the traditional custodians of this country, paying respect to elders past and present, and recognising that sovereignty was never ceded.

10% of profits from this compilation will be donated to Palestine Australia Relief and Action (PARA). PARA help Palestinian migrants and refugees live safe, happy, and fulfilling lives in Australia.

This month's spiralling, naturally show sees host basic chanel invite Australian artist Zara onto Netil Radio, taking over an hour each. Zara's recent releases on Butter Sessions with Command D and solo on amenthia recordings as well as Animalia, Amniote Editions, QEONE, and Pure Space, have been a staple in my sets so I'm super excited to welcome Zara on the show whilst she's here in London! A big tip from me as a producer & DJ to watch with an incredibly exciting run of releases coming up. <3

𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘶𝘴 𝘢 𝘣𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘵?
This set was recorded at Mostra Festival in April – a beautiful four-day experimental music festival in the heart of Barcelona, and my first Europe show of the year! I had the opportunity to bridge the gap between Ena’s incredible live ambient set and Timnah & Mario (Hybrid)’s deep techno set.

I themed my set around spiralling synths, beginning the journey with broken beats and moving through half-time into 170 BPM, while maintaining a sense of hypnotic groove throughout. 

The crowd and energy in the room were magnetic – they were with me every step of the way. It was such a beautiful experience and definitely a highlight of my year. Huge thanks to the amazing team at Mostra!! :)

Hello :) I’m Zara and I’m originally from so-called Australia, but I’ve been living in London since April.

I’m finishing up my last EU/UK gigs for the year this week, and then I’m sooo excited to head to Japan and Korea for a mini tour – still pinching myself that I get to play there!

𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨/𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨?
I’ve been DJing for about seven years and producing for around five.

XLB by Pearson Sound completely rewired my brain and pulled me into the subterranean world.

𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺?
They Feel, They Know by SHIVARASA.
I first heard it during a yoga class while I was recovering from a back injury that made daily life difficult and it really stayed with me. It reminded me of the value of stillness and the beauty of inner peace - especially as the weather turns colder and the state of the world feels increasingly bleak.

𝘋𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘣𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘣𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘵?
So many… but festivals like Waking Life, Monument, Parallel, and Organik really inspire me for their beautiful locations and community-focused approach. For clubs, I’ve always dreamed of playing at Bassiani, Club Raum, Ankali, and Oil.

𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘶𝘱?
Again, so many!! I have so many artists I admire, so let’s say the dream lineup would be a festival in nature taking place over a couple of days :D

Donato Dozzy, Mama Snake, Timnah, OK Williams, Objekt, Woody92, Sybil, A Strange Wedding (live), Ema, Hysterical Love Project (live), Livwutang, James K (live), Konduku, Polygonia (live), Marco Shuttle b2b Jane Fitz, CCL, Djrum, Temple Rat (live), Upsammy, Harold, Tangerine, Kia and garçon - the list could go on haha, too many to name!

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘋𝘑𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘴?
The dance floor is your greatest teacher, community your strongest ally, and fear of failure your greatest enemy.

If you’re able to, get out, dance, and soak in as much diverse music as you can. I’ve learned so much from watching how people respond to certain moments and from the energy of the room itself. I take inspiration from different elements within tracks and from how I feel and move when I hear certain sounds.

Being in clubs or music spaces also helps cultivate a sense of community. By genuinely supporting artists, collectives, and venues, we can help the underground not just survive but thrive. And most importantly, the dance floor is the best place to meet like-minded people – some of my closest friends are those I met through a shared love of music <3

This special release marks 10 years since his debut with us and his 5th EP on the label, taking us straight to the core of his signature sound. The four originals move through different shades of his psychedelia infused palette - held together by a trance-tinted touch and infectious grooves at the heart of it all. 

Audrey Danza, Aerae, Zara, and Andy Garvey push “Morung” outward into alternate dimensions - reimagining the originals into dubby textures, halftime mutations, lucid forms, and psychedelic minimalism - broadening the spectrum of the release while keeping its spirit intact.

"Morung” looks both behind and forward, a decade-long trajectory, distilled into sequences made for all corners of the night.

This week’s guest in our podcast series is Australian-born / London-based Zara, a name that’s been making waves in the underground UK techno scene and now graces us with her debut two-hour RYC mix. A versatile juggler of styles and tempi, Zara dishes out a multi-faceted set spanning jagged hi-tech grooves, faux-organic downtempo ambiences and further cross-pollinated dubs from outer space. Never quite limiting herself to straitjacketed protocols, the Kinesis Recordings boss pulls out a wealth of unsuspected moves and maneuvers, blurring the line constantly between club adaptation and non-formulaic musical detours bordering on experimental and leftfield. Neel and Donato Dozzy welcome Zara (@zaraolsen) to their Spazio Disponibile playground. Over the course of four tracks she brings an excellent showcase of her fluid, bass heavy and hypnotic techno experiments. From the deep stepping 4th Arc to the teeth grinding live version of Plastique. On the B-side she brings the groove back in with some lively off-rhythm techno hypnotica. It's a suiting addition to Spazio's label roster that pushes techno once more outside of the ordinary.
