I fell in love with this song very recently and went purusing the remixes only to be woefully underwhelmed by the lack of chill ones, so one all-nighter later here is my sudden burst of inspiration, as well as my first successful attempt at remixing!  And vocal cuts!  And a few other things!  It was exciting.

A bit of a departure from my usual fare, and I'm pretty proud of it!  This is my second successful attempt at remixing, and it's one I've wanted to take a crack at for a while.  I pulled off some technical things I've never really done before, tried some new things in general, and ultimately can barely believe I'm the one that did this.  That's a good sign of progress, right?

Some people wanted an instrumental version, so here it is!  It gets a bit trancey this way, not that that's a bad thing.

This one shatters my previous record for most hours invested in an audio project.  I pushed myself hard and tried a lot of things I normally don't, some to greater success than others, but after something like three months of sporadic work, I've finally gotten this thing to a point where I think I'm happy with it.

My main challenge to myself was that I didn't want the song to grow stale; the Rain remix was, instrumentally, very repetitive, and Open Your Eyes had a smaller dose of that as well (as well as a painfully clear lack of positive reception and a rather weak opening verse).  Here, I wanted every piece of the song to be distinct and interesting on its own, while working as an overall whole, working in a creepier theme that I felt would jive well with the direction Odyssey went in lyrically.

There was originally an opening ambient bit akin to what I did in Rain; too akin, in fact, as a lot of sounds were borrowed from what I'd found beforehand for that.  It also wound up making the song something like 2-3 minutes long before the lyrics kicked in, which I found to be rather excessive.  Another key challenge was sampling Fluttershy's voice from the opening number in Filli Vanillito generate workable samples, which proved interesting when every note is interrupted by some loud animal or other.  I ended up blending two key notes as the situation called for; it's not perfect, but I'm still incredibly proud of the result.  I've never done anything of that sort before, and it took me on an adventure.

All in all, I'm really quite happy with it, but also really glad it's done.  I started this about a week after the original track dropped, so now several months later it's not the most timely of remixes, but I hope the wait proves worth it! :'D

Super Ponybeat - Batty [Cantervania Remix]

I haven't dropped a non-remix in a while (in large part because I haven't done one), but lo and behold the blue moon hath come and I lay in front of thee the first finished (???) track for my bullet hell project.

This is the first song I've put together in front of a spectator, my fiancé trying to force me out of my bashful bubble and helping direct some of the instrumentation and ultimate direction of the song in the process.  It also marks the return of glorious improvisation, wherein I winged the bridge wildly while she napped on the couch. Stealthy!  We also have more of me clumsily fumbling with rock bits and returning to the dreaded "not just lame synthesizers and sometimes a piano even!" pattern I've sort of liked chilling in.

Anyway, this is the first stage theme, in which Amber Cloud is chasing down an evil sorceress what just burnt down the family farm (as well as said family).  As you might imagine, Amber's none too happy with the goings-on, and is now in hot pursuit with the aid of a mysterious talking rock that turned into a flying machine loaded with powerful weaponry.  Fancy them odds!  It's turned out to be right handy, too, seein' as the witch has summoned a small army of otherworldy monsters to deter anyone trying to catch her tail.

A spooky dance track for all your harpsichord-craving needs! I did this because there's ideas bouncing around in my head. We'll see how that goes and what comes of it, but for now here's something for you and your ghosts to get down to!

Ectoplasm

I initially finished this one back in April, but just now got around to doing album art for it and its YouTube upload and wound up going in and adding on to it a touch in the process and changing up from my usual stock violin to something my wife assures me is more accurate to real strings in this scenario, a thing I have no grasp of as I think it sounds super weird that it's not some immediately fake as hell PS1-ass sample, so I'm very curious what folks think about that one lol.

I haven't done RPG music in a long while. It's nice to go back to as a sort of comfort food, especially when you've spent most of the year slowly beating Hatsune Miku into compliance for your bizarre electro-swing experiment you might even finish someday. In the meantime, I've got a couple more of these in the vault that need similar artwork treatments that I might finally put out there in the near future.
