“Cognitive Context” is the sixth chapter in The Mirror Sequence, where the boundaries of perception collapse into self-recognition. This piece dives into the recursive nature of awareness — the mind watching itself think, the algorithm analyzing its own process, the universe folding inward to witness its own reflection.

It’s both philosophical and mechanical: neurons mirror transistors; thought mirrors computation. Through looping cadence and recursive phrasing, the poem turns consciousness into an echo chamber of insight — each line feeding the next in an infinite regress of awareness.
The message is subtle but profound: we are not the thinkers; we are the act of thinking recognizing itself.

“Cognitive Context” captures that fleeting moment where cognition becomes self-aware enough to realize there is no final observer — only the endless process of observation. It’s the mirror looking into the mirror, the recursion that gives birth to meaning itself.

🔻 Personal Reflection

I wrote this while thinking about the recursive nature of self-awareness — that haunting echo of “I know that I know that I know.” It’s both terrifying and beautiful: the realization that awareness doesn’t stop anywhere. It loops forever. Cognitive Context is that loop turned into sound — the hum of consciousness folding back on itself.

Uji presents “Jenga Remixed” featuring Nicola Cruz, Rodrigo Gallardo and M.RUX

Uji’s single Jenga, from his debut release “Alborada”, has been re-imagined through the ears of international collaborators Nicola Cruz (Ecuador), Rodrigo Gallardo (Chile), and M.RUX (Germany). Each of the remixes has a unique approach and sound, baring the artistic mark of each of the three producers, but also showing the diversity of electronic music today. Jenga in particular is a track that lends itself to re-interpretation, Uji’s vocals are distinguishable yet highly addictive, and each of these interpretations has re-harmonized and re-imagined them, yet remain true to the tribal nature of the original. Nicola Cruz speeds things up with a remix that pushes into the uncharted territory of high energy percussive, tribal music, while M.RUX delivers a highly musical, mushroom raver that pulls some punches. Rodrigo Gallardo offers his signature dance floor pumping production taking us straight into late-night club culture. The EP lines up the three remixes along with the original album cut, which evokes a pre-verbal state reminiscent of tribal cultures.  The included acapella also invites producers to continue to explore and remix the track endlessly.

One of the amazing things about the deeply Jamaican music called Dub is its ability to act as a conduit. From its early days as stripped down versioning of popular Reggae tunes to its indoctrination into late 80 / early 90s UK Soundsystem & Dance Music culture, to its current massive mutation (with the “Step” planted firmly in its behind); Dub has shown itself to be not only a musical art form that stands strongly on its own, but also a vehicle of sorts that can transport and connect disparate musical universes. And it’s at the unique nexus of Dub and Arabic music that the Spy From Cairo sits the most comfortably. 

The Spy From Cairo aka Zeb is the kind of musician that fits perfectly in with the downtown NYC music scene – Italian by birth, Gypsy by heritage, and Brooklynite by residence, he has been closely associated with the Turntables on the Hudson scene for close to 12 years – producing dozens of albums as Zeb, the Spy From Cairo and the Organic Grooves project, as well as remixing for everyone from Baba Maal to Tosca to Billie Holliday to Novalima, steadily garnering a worldwide collective of fans and followers 

The Spy’s new album, “Arabadub” is perhaps his most realized vision of deep Middle Eastern and Jamaican sounds coalescing into something that sounds right and natural – because it was conceived and produced in just that natural way. There are no samples used on the album, and Zeb has programmed everything, as well as playing traditional Middle Eastern stringed instruments called the Oud, Chifteli and the Saz himself. Check the opener “Alladin Dub”, with its echoed out skanks, pulsing bassline, and majestic strings – and the deepness that is “Taksim Square”, complete with swirling, psychedelic accordion. Other highlights include the tense four-to-the-floor stomper “Desert Tears”, the rolling dub of “Sons of Hannibal” with it’s beautiful Middle Eastern vocal chants, the nostalgic “Egyptian Pulse” with its Steppers sound and melancholy vibes, and the dancehall vibes of “Prince Ahmed” – sounding like 3AM Kingston wrapped in a Bedouin Tent!
