i wanted to take it back to a time when you could get lost in your headphones to a dj's mixtape... a tape that took you on a journey of varying, unexpected soundscapes as surprising as they were harmonious. from hip hop, to future bass, to dusty/dirty beats filled with jazz, funk, and soul, i wanted to try to make something that straddled the line between the past & the present. something future forward yet classic & timeless. a place where golden age hip hop like biggie smalls & tribe called quest could live in the same place as today's modern sounds. to create something original as a dj rather than as a producer is actually pretty hard, and i sincerely hope u are able to get a chance to throw some headphones on, take a walk on a sunny day, and listen :)

This mix was inspired by the warm up sets we played at What So Not’s ‘Not All The Beautiful Things’ album listening parties.

Having followed the process of the album being made and all the hard work that went into every detail, we wanted to give these sets the same amount of consideration. We were looking to create a unique world through sound that would act as a foundation for the album. Approaching our set more from a curation point of view, rather than a ‘DJ Set’, in an attempt to create a certain energy in the room. 

It was really enjoyable and a great opportunity to share a lot of softer and more obscure music that we have been collecting over the years.

We hope you enjoy the journey :)

ZEBARAH is the Sydney-based production duo of Luke ‘Faf’ Emerson and Mark Broome. Drawing inspiration from an eclectic range of artists, from Four Tet to Quix, Anderson Paak and What So Not, ZEBARAH’s sound is a stiff blend of analog and bedroom producer experimentation. 

In 2014, the duo partnered with Emoh of What So Not to deliver a driving remix of “Chasing Time” by Azealia Banks and more recently have locked down a residency at popular King Cross venue, The World Bar.

2017 saw the boys join forces with much-loved Sydney band, Mammals, for their first official release, “Depths (feat. Animal Feelings)” - out December 2017. And with a flurry of music in the pipeline, it’s looking like 2018 is going to be a massive year for the lads.
