A companion piece to ‘I Really Couldn’t Have Done It Without You’- again, composed largely of Electronisounds loops,with just the bass and the EP stabs to keep me honest as it were. A slightly more chilled feel than its stable-mate. I just had to escape from the hardware for a bit, and this is the result.

Or ‘The Beauty of MIDI’. When first laid down, three of the five parts were played by Electric Vintage- Apesoft’s excellent Rhodes emulation- but being MIDI data they could have been anything. In this reimagining the three parts are now played by Audiokit’s 808 Bass, Klevgrand’s Hillman and SynthMaster One- same composition, different feel. And as it’s my SC account and my composition I can upload it as often as I like. So there.

Etude in C minor Revisited

She saw a hare and just took off, heedless of the consequences. At some point in the mad pursuit she must have wrenched her offside rear foot badly enough to leave it very swollen and unable to put it to the ground for a couple of days. She is an idiot dog at the best of times... Anyway, this little evolving piece was laid down on the Boxing Day that she did it. It’s really a mash-up of two pieces- a choral affair derived from multiple uses of Klevgrand’s Pipa app in the new four-part riffer and an uptempo thing based around a neat repeated bassline. It’s not possible to go too mad with instances of Pipa- that thing really racks up the dsp- but if you keep it sensible it works well, and is hours of fun.

The Day The Lurcher Chased A Hare

I recall someone saying that if you’ve got more than five things going on in a composition, that’s too many...So I spent ages looking for some sort of lead synth for this, only to find that it was indeed too much. Sometimes less is more, and not enough is about right. I think this is about right.

(Staying In) Not Because We’re Told To But Because We Want To

I assume this is techno because I assembled it from techno-type loops and beats. I’m sure someone will tell me if it’s not... Very little actual playing input from the artist here, the track being put together from loops and arps found lying around on the iPad- most of them from the Electronisounds stable. It makes a nice change from battling with hardware!

I Really Couldn’t Have Done It Without You

An unthreatening little piece in 3/4, nevertheless made a little eerie by the burbling synth under the lead. This is in fact one of the more pleasing tones that can be extracted from the Make Noise 0-Coast, but I’m not complaining. Its wilder sounds would, sadly, be completely out of place on SC, but I’m sure that they will find their way into a YT video in short order.

A Brief Interlude By The (No) Coast

Bit of an odd time signature, but that’s what you get after watching Make Noise’s tutorial on the SQ-1 sequencer. This may sound as though I’ve just mashed up a bunch of other people’s samples again, but with one exception all the sounds here are my own work. So there.

FourSevenFour

A somewhat more ‘textured’ version of the piece recently uploaded to my YouTube channel- called ‘0-Coast riff(er)’ there- comprising several iterations of a sequence played by riffer in iOS on the Make Noise 0-Coast. I’ve only lately learned that this is even possible (the 0-Coast doesn’t do midi over usb, after all) by means of the SQ-1 used, not as a sequencer in its own right, but as a midi-to-cv converter. The added value here is a truly eerie arp from Ice Gear’s Kronecker synth, while the rather Euclidean drum pattern has been shipped over unchanged, because I’m rather proud of it.
