When we have the wisdom of equanimity, in other words an even-keeled and emotionally balanced mind, we feel content, secure and in touch with our inner abundance. The ancient traditions of Vajrayana Buddhism and Tantric yoga teach us how we can attain this balanced state of mind by working with the earth element. In this meditation we use our imagination and power of intention to cultivate feelings of self-confidence, accomplishment and trust in our actions. Confidence is one of the liberated five wisdoms of the Buddhist and Tantra Yoga traditions.  Also known as 'freedom in action', confidence gives us the ability to respond to each moment rather than react out of the limiting fears or beliefs of the everyday mind. This approach can help us to break free of these unhelpful mind patterns, such as our beliefs in our own limitations, so that we can take a genuine joy in our actions and build a deep trust in ourselves and the world around us. Cultivating self confidence

This track was recorded during a workshop Zeenat was leading on the goddess Durga.  The Tantric Devi Suktam is a song of praise to goddess Durga, reliever of all difficulties.  Replete with mantras for removing our difficulties and fears, as well as giving us strength and protection, the Devi Suktam is primarily a song of devotion.  It opens our heart and lets us commune with the highest power in the universe, the power to heal and unite.  In the non-dual Tantric path not only can we relate to this benevolent power, but we embody and become it. There is ultimately no separation between ourselves and the divine.

Recorded during a group session, this track features Zeenat guiding the class through a practice to generate feelings of kindness and positive emotion; using mindful awareness and mental intention.

There are many benefits to this kind of practice. It helps to calm our mind, reduces emotional agitation and brings a general sense of wellbeing.  It helps us to see beyond our ego's immediate concerns and desires, so we can embrace a true warmth and kindness for ourselves and others. Then we can discover the happiness that comes from feeling connected and having a supportive empathy for ourselves and others. This is the ground of true compassion.

Meditation generating kindness

This popular chant gets us in touch with the energy of Durga. In Tantra this is the active power of consciousness to bring strength, integrity and fearlessness and the ability to overcome difficulties.  The Durga energy can break through the obstructive aspects of our mind and emotions; and give us the power and determination to live our truth in the now. Every time we chant a Durga mantra we can literally embody this energy and bring it into our hearts and mind.

One of the greatest classical texts of Hindu philosophy, the Bhagavad Gita is the discourse between the warrior Arjuna and his beloved friend Krishna. As they stand on the battlefield, where the warring families the Pandavas and the Kauravas are ready to fight, Arjuna is filled with doubt and seeks guidance from Krishna.

On this track Zeenat chants the Mahamrtyunjaya Mantra of Lord Shiva, an important mantra in the Tantra and Yoga traditions for healing, enlightenment and for liberation from suffering.   

When we recite the mantra many times, our mind resting gently on the inner sound, our awareness becomes absorbed into the mantra. A transformation in our body-mind can then occur.  With the Mahamrtyunjaya mantra our mind becomes clear and stable and our emotions centered and calm.  

An important and special application of this mantra is that it supports our health and can bring healing.  We can also chant it for others who are ill or at risk of illness, whether our loved ones, friends, those in our wider community or in the world at large. When the mantra's power of transformation mingles with our compassion, and our longing for others to be safe and free from suffering, then it is said that great healing is possible. 

You can begin reciting it out loud until you feel familiar with it and feel the resonance of the sounds in your mind and body. Then after a while begin chanting it quietly, repeating it in your mind rather than out loud.  Repeat the mantra many times until you feel your mind becoming absorbed into it.   You may want to dedicate your recitation for your own healing, or the healing of others.
