Cuancoá is my new EP—a project that began in May and June of this year and has been evolving over the past months. The 4 tracks were born from analog jams with synthesizers and a drum machine, where improvisation was key. Over time, I added digital layers, but always kept the raw essence of the original sessions.

Two of the tracks, Uúba and Cuancoá, are deeply connected to both astronomy and U’wa culture. Uúba represents the star LTT 9779, which means "stars" in U’wa, and Cuancoá its exoplanet, LTT 9779b, meaning "seeds." These names reflect the connection between the U’wa community and their environment, highlighting how indigenous worldviews intertwine with modern astronomical knowledge. Additionally, Uúba, also known as the "morning star," symbolizes renewal and hope; however, its brightness can also remind us of the constant struggle between light and darkness, representing the search for meaning amidst the duality of life. Both Cuancoá and Melquíades carry symbolism related to the darker aspects of existence.

The other two tracks, Melquíades and Macondo, are inspired by Cien años de soledad by Gabriel García Márquez and have a significant emotional connection. Macondo represents nostalgia for displacement, particularly in the context of my home country, Colombia, where the sense of belonging and connection to the land is often affected. The cadence of dub in Macondo allows navigation through a sea of melancholy, while in Uúba, the strength to continue manifests, demonstrating that even when it seems to wane, it is reborn in the form of resilience.

Macondo is located in an orange dwarf star known as HD 93083, situated in the Antlia constellation, 94.26 light years away. Melquíades, or HD 93083b, is the exoplanet orbiting this star. The names Macondo and Melquíades evoke the magical realism of García Márquez's work, where Macondo is a place of rich history and symbolism, while Melquíades represents knowledge and wisdom. Each track offers a sonic balance, providing an experience that fuses emotional depth with musical expression.

Cuancoá explores the convergence of techno and drum and bass, with dub and ambient elements adding depth to each track. It’s a journey that ties together the cosmos, mythology, and literature, along with my own experiences and personal vision, now available.
