Zem  was born in Cape Town, South Africa.  She was taught by her mother to play the piano from a young age and she went on to win several talent competitions.
 
As she got older, Zem realized that playing classical pieces was not enough, so she began transforming her poetry into songwriting, but she was still too shy to actually sing.
 
A personal tragedy led her to the studio where she began recording as a therapeutic escape and figured out that singing was her calling and began to find herself in the process.
 
While shopping in a local market, Zem was discovered by a beauty scout and began an unexpected modeling career. The cultural exposure gained from her global travels while modeling served as musical inspiration. These influences can be found in her emotionally charged, substance laden electropop soul sound.
 
Already being visually compared to Lady Gaga meets Sia and artistically between Elie Goulding and Lana Del Ray. Zem is prepared to turn heads, take names, and prove she’s more than a pretty face with a mic in her hand. And she’s no stranger to the spotlight, having performed in front of audience of 30,000 and as opening act for Ciara, 50 Cent, Craig David, and Nelly.
 
What makes Zem a unique artist is her ability to fuse her personal songs with her talents as a dancer, model and actress to create a symbiotic performance.
 
Zem currently resides in the global billionaire’s playground, Dubai, where she is putting the finishing touches on her first EP, World War Z, to be released mid Summer 2014.
