Now in the archive: Endless Concrete Walls w/ MAENDI b2b iarna // 30.06.2024

The 10th episode of @endless-concrete-walls on @thfradio is a full 2-hour b2b session with @aemaenda and @iarna_707 , recorded in the beginning of June during MAENDI’s last visit to Berlin for a gig at Acud Macht NEU, and broadcasted on the 30th of June!

MAENDI’s sound evasions are anchored in her outgoing and curious nature. As a key member of Radio 80000 she is always inspired by a divers musical landscape of community work: dark bass, hard dubstep are as much a part of her repertoire as breakbeat and eclectic vibes.
She has a special affection for 90’s and 2000 RnB, the music she has always listened to and grown up with. So this is all very loud and progressive, but it wouldn’t be her special taste if she didn’t sometimes let the shy girl hang out. Where is that anchored? In her experimental, emotional, partly melancholic combinations, which she  incorporates into her club sets and which pleasantly strain the audience without loosing the party mode.

The b2b is a an exciting journey from Ambient and IDM, Breakbeat to Bailee Funk, Reggaeton to Indie Sleaze and R&B to Breakcore!

This year, Björk invited Mun Sing (@munsing) to perform alongside cutting-edge producers like Jlin, Shygirl, and Sega Bodega at her party. As a member of the renowned Bristol techno duo Giant Swan, Mun Sing’s solo work is infused with the same frenzied elements: hardcore-style guttural roars, gritty industrial noise, and hard-hitting beats that pack a punch.

Compared to Giant Swan’s wild, roaring energy, Mun Sing’s solo project is more fragmented and sharp, yet his sound design consistently meets a high standard. His debut album "Inflatable Gravestone," released on Planet Mu, features a striking clash of metallic sounds while reflecting on the significance of humor and distraction as coping mechanisms, creating a world where functionality and experimentation in dance music coexist. Since last year, he has ventured into the fashion world, regularly composing runway music for the Swedish fashion brand Acne Studios, where he freely explores a more refined and sophisticated side.

The 32nd contribution to the Dance All Day Mix Series comes from Brooklyn based DJ & artist 'Private Service.' Prior to her New York residency, Erika V had been in Texas for the last half decade introducing her sonically charged DJ sets weaved with grooved out rhythms and creative flows. Here, Erika delivers 60 minutes of dubbed out leftfield bass, and outsider techno rollers with an industrial tinge.

Sofii is a French-American DJ and producer, who grew up on the other side of the Atlantic before settling in Paris. Co-founder of the More Hard Feelings collective, she explores a multitude of genres in the club spectrum through her sets. 

With a very broad aesthetic, sofii offers sounds imbued with rave culture with ultra-percussive rhythms, as well as textured ambient layers and emo vocals. A complex personality but always right on the dancefloor: from cute emo doom to ravey bass music.

BEA1991 (@1991bea) – she is a Dutch-English audiovisual artist and songwriter with a background in aerial acrobatics. Because of her personal fluidity, overall beliefs, and the variety of her work, she describes herself as a Pantheist Artist.

She gets excited about writing progressive pop music; working with popular elements while pushing boundaries on what could be experienced as accessible.

For her, sonic intelligence is found in "gilding the lily of human errors." Alongside producing and self-releasing music for over ten years, she also continuously undertakes projects that explore fashion and design, photography, acting, and art direction. Her music would not exist without these projects, and vice versa.

Being a self-taught artist with no degree, all her work to date is greatly led by autodidact processes, alongside her passion for intelligent satire and contemplative animism. Her work spans a wide musical spectrum, with elements of avant-garde pop, psychedelic, ambient music, and R&B blending together seamlessly, drawing listeners in and immersing them in a spectrum of colors. She has written music for other artists like Dev Hynes & Blood Orange, Sega Bodega, and Porches, and has toured alongside Caroline Polacheck, Robyn, Yves Tumor, Blood Orange, and Kirin J Callinan. She has played shows throughout the US, Europe, Latin America, and a few in Asia.

Since 2021, she has toured less heavily and started a consultancy practice where she helps other artists get to the core of their creator desires. The shows that she does perform are carefully curated and often made bespoke to collaborate intentionally with the venue, client, or program at hand. Her music career as BEA1991 spans from 2014 to the present day. The full BEA1991 discography is self-released through her label BE.AWORLD.
