Poker Flat Recordings welcomes back the ever-prolific Alex Niggemann for another speaker-troubling dispatch. This time out, the Aoen and Soulfooled boss drops a hea- vy–duty release that more than lives up to his usual high standards.
'Materium' is epic in every sense of the word- a sprawling, tough journey into analog tech- no – with a dash of house thrown in. It rips through the speakers – the crisp and aggres- sive production provides the space for grow- ling synths and atmospheric, tense pads. What’s more, the whole track audaciously dissolves into silence mid way through – be- fore exploding back into life via a descending analog synth line.

Julian Wassermann steps up to the SVT plate with an immersive four track effort that showcases his knack for deep tech melodies. A minimal bassline and synths straight from the depths of space lay the groundwork for Alpha, the kickoff into the EP. A subtle yet effective mood-setter, it makes for a great inaugural cut as the release unfolds. Title piece Aurea calmly follows, looming in with tribal infused percussion and lush, effusive vocals. Garnering an equally atmospheric mood, Wassermann aptly combines airy pads and dark synths into an immensely polarizing cut. People Are Strange dives in on a more dynamic note, centered around a solid bassline with alternating synth lines. Swiftly morphing into an energetic banger via punchy bass and ghostly vocal chops, the construction carries major peak time appeal. For the final contribution Imperia, Wassermann calls on the production skills of fellow Muenchener H.B.C. to create a radiant piece of spacious tech. Layering modular strobes and arpeggiated synths, their production styles merge harmoniously, resulting in a dancefloor-ready strapping groove.

The first release of this year, controls London’s own Adam Ficek aka RKC, former drummer for Pete Doherty's Babyshambles. After he left the band, he devoted himself to his solo project Roses Kings Castle (RKC). The remixes on this EP are contributed by the Spanish exceptional artist Pional (Hivern Disc, Permanent Vacation, Live with John Talabot), the Norwegian Diskjokke (Full Pupp, Smalltown Supersound) and the Swiss Sound-wizard First Season.
