Halcyon Butterfly

There lies a giant castle made entirely of ice in a certain middle of nowhere, surrounded by a blizzard which never seems to end. They say no two people who enter its doors ever experience the same journey, for the castle's icy mirrors reflect only each individual's own unique, precious memories from their past. Within, the traveler becomes utterly entranced by the vivid and seemingly very real projections on the mirror. Perhaps this is part of the castle's spell. With an outstretched hand they long to feel these memories, to relive them again -- only to be met by the mirror's cold, unyielding surface. The traveler has no choice but to witness their past lives simply as a spectator from afar, forever.

This was track 1 of 2 which I submitted for the #maj7 discord 2021 showcase. This was created near Christmas-time last year when wintery vibes were still abound.

Artwork is taken from an indie jrpg named Light Fairytale, which this song has no relation to and was merely used as inspiration.

My entry for Sample Pack Contest XVII. A quiet meditation under the sunlit trees in the summer heat & breeze. Komorebi is a Japanese term without an English equivalent, referring to "sunlight that's filtered and scattered through trees", which is what I imagined as I made this.

My track for Sample Pack Contest XVIII which placed 3rd out of 70 entries. This started out as an attempt towards a space-themed RPG battle song but developed into a longer and more ambitious jam.

Mixing has been improved for this SoundCloud version to be brighter and punchier compared to the original, since I ran out of time before the deadline.

One of my earlier attempts at a song using non General MIDI sounds/instruments. The initial inspiration was the jazz jingle from Ice Climbers, but it very soon dove into a medley of experiments with the different samples. The section at 1:30 is one of my more prouder melodies.

Chords chords chords. The story goes something like this: a woman at a casino compulsively gambles all her money away and spirals down into a manic depressive episode, before being promptly kicked out and forced to wander in the neon streets of downtown at night.

My first song after...a 6-7 year hiatus of barely making music (compared to previous years anyway). Regrettably the song is out of tune by almost half a semitone, and it was something I didn't pay attention to until others noticed it! Still, enjoy the detuned undead funkiness. :)

Popipo Galaxy

My entry for VGMusic's Sample Pack Contest XII (tied for 4th out of 75 songs). 
My longest musical work yet and basically my attempt at slow-moving Kohei Tanaka-style orchestra.
Most of the symphonic instruments here (trumpet, trombone, oboe, violin, flute, etc.) were crafted based on the one radix.wav sample. The title also means "greed is the root of evil" in Latin.

We fought through so many battles, gone through so many challenges, overcome so much together.
But all of this was for naught, as every single future that was prophesied ends in failure.

It is fate.
No matter what we do, the world will be destroyed, and everyone will die.

As I look upon my companions, they stand with somber expressions.
Bodies caked with dirt, tired dull eyes that stare blankly at our impossible task ahead.
The Destroyer of Worlds awaits us, patiently mocking us for our inevitable demise.

Although defeat seems like the only possibility, I remember a phrase that my grandfather once said.
"As long as you still have hope, you can make the impossible happen."
I grasp my sword and with a determined face, I turn to the others.
Though I say not a word, my feelings are conveyed through my unyielding eyes.

Everyone begins to realize that there is no going back, that this is something that needs to be done.
We have to hope that the prophecies are wrong...no, we will prove that they are wrong.
Since we are those who defy fate!

It's wintertime in the year 21XX. During your annual excursion to the Digital World, the wonderland before you of falling snow fills your soul, and is accompanied by the calm crackling of the fireplace next to you within a quiet cabin in the night.

But before you know it, something is happening -- the snowflakes are starting to glimmer and flicker. They resemble stars. Millions and millions of stars in the darkness. It's strangely beautiful. You get up and reach out to touch them, but as you do they begin to turn into.....star bits??!

Bewildered, you run outside into the fields and realize that, the world around you is breaking down. The real world and Digital World are beginning to collide! And yet, the beauty of your surroundings mesmerizes you. Will you choose to escape, or end up fusing with the world itself?
