THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF SOUND AND COLOR

" Color and sound are not only the language by which one communicates with external life, but also the language by which one communicates with the inner life. One might ask how it is done. The answer is found in certain scientific experiments: special plates are made, and by speaking near such a plate, one makes marks upon it with sound and with vibration. And those marks make either harmonious forms or inharmonious forms. But every person from morning till night is making an invisible form in space by what he says. He is creating invisible vibrations around him and he is thereby producing an atmosphere. Somebody may come into the house and before he speaks you are tired of him, you wish to get rid of him. Before he has said or done anything you are finished with him, you would like him to go away. For he is creating in his atmosphere a sound and this sound is disagreeable. There may be another person with whom you feel sympathy, to whom you feel drawn, whose friendship you value, whose presence you long for. Harmony is continually created through him. That is a sound too.

If this be true, then it is not only the external signs, but also the inner condition which is audible and visible. Though not visible to the eyes and not audible to the ears, yet it is audible and visible to the soul. We say, 'I feel his vibrations, I feel this person's presence, I feel sympathy, or antipathy towards that person.' There is a feeling. And a person creates a feeling without having said anything or done anything. Therefore a person whose vibration is wrong, without doing or saying anything wrong, creates the wrong atmosphere. And you find fault with him. It is most amusing to see how people may come to you with a complaint: 'I have said nothing, I have done nothing, and yet people dislike me and are against me!' That person does not understand that it is not what he says or does. It is what one is which speaks louder than anything one says. It is being. It is life itself which has its tone, its color, its vibration. It speaks aloud.

In Focus with us is Adam Wood a.k.a. the BEATFARMER, to harvest some thoughts, passions and sounds growing in his fields.

Beatfarmer, aka Adam Wood, was born in England, and has lived and travelled to many places in the world, taking in the sights and sounds of different cultures and people. He now lives in the woods on a raw, west coast island where his homesteading lifestyle keeps him connected with the earth. This connection shows through his music, which incorporates ethnic and tribal sounds with modern electronic beats capturing the energy and beauty of the world he loves.

Adam's musical training began at an early age with the violin, training at the Suzuki music school. He continued playing classical violin solo and in orchestras through his high school years, when he began experimenting with other instruments and styles. A love of popular music developed in his high school years, and continued into his adult life. In 2005, an intentional dance celebration came to the small island that is Adam's home. It opened his eyes, ears, and heart to a new and beautiful world of electronic music and dance. Beatfarmer dj'd the opening set at the next celebration that came to the island, which gave him a new outlet for his love of music. Since then he has played many shows in the Victoria and south coast intentional dance scenes, and also has become a regular dj at community celebrations on the island as well. He has developed a passion for mixing organic world music with electronic beats and takes great care in crafting his sets for individual shows. In 2009 Adam started producing his own music, a style which he calls tribal trance. Like his Dj sets, his original productions are filled with natural sounds, chanting, and organic percussion, connecting the listener with the traditions of the past, through the sounds of the future. Producing at his off grid island home, he has released 4 full length cds, the last 2 being released on Ovnimoon Records. Mantra was released in 2012, reaching number 6 on psyshop's CD chart and a new downtempo CD entitled "Eye of the Storm" came out in 2014. There is also a growing body of inspired remix work, including his remix of "Carpet Breaker", released on Adham Shaikh's Refractions remix CD and a remix of Khumba Mela for the Desert Dwellers' "Nomadic Ecstatic" ep…

Beatfarmer believes in the power of the trance state to strengthen our spirits and bodies and likes to access this through dance and music. Adam is an active member of the intentional dance community on the south coast. and strives to create opportunities for positive, intentional celebration where people can safely activate their higher self with movement, sound and community. Through dance, we strive to bring an increase in consciousness and awareness though to our daily lives.
Bringing mind, spirit and body together. Combining energy, healing, beauty, balance, organic sounds and ancient incantations, beatfarmer will move your body to dance and your spirit to soar. Whether it's a world fusion set, a deep trance journey, or sacred downtempo… beatfarmer plays for the dancers.
