Antonio aka Raw Ambassador - Aquatica EP [AP004 / ZE003]

After migrating to the Gold Coast from Sydney for competitive surfing in 2019, Lara slowly became involved in the local underground music scene. The singer-songwriter had recently released several indie pop tracks under the alias ‘Fond of Felix’, however learning to DJ led her to discover a whole new realm of music. ‘Felix’ became her new musical identity, the three face motif representing her versatility and the fluidity of her sound.

Felix’s sets are never bound by a genre, only by groove and feel. With a knack for reading the room and adapting to her surroundings, her sets are a constant ‘on the fly’ journey. Her selections are rhythm-section-forward, featuring deep and percussive beats layered with lush synths and live instruments. Jazz, world, and tribal influences can be heard throughout her extensive range of genres, from trip hop and acid/nu jazz to electronica, deep house and minimal tech, all the way through to breaks, UKG, and jungle.

Based in Coolangatta, felix has played at a range of venues and events in Byron, Gold Coast and Brisbane like S*A*S*H, The End Bar, Soho Bar, The W, Fiume, Justin Lane, Mexicali, Hidden Cherub, Refuge and Dusty’s. In late 2020, felix and her three friends ola jar, Joey Pepperoni and D’jeans founded ‘ravewave’, an underground music event group which has evolved from organising casual beach and carpark raves to now hosting monthly events in established venues. Felix and ola jar also frequently join forces in their b2b breaks/jungle duo ‘no dogs’.

Felix makes a range of mixes utilising both vinyl and digital formats and is constantly expanding her collections. Producing an EP for release is her next step, and she looks forward to sharing her own personal sound with the world.

Exactly one year after his 2021 release entitled 'The Electro Manifesto', DVS NME returns with a collection of new tracks that were produced between late 2021 and early 2022. This 25-track album is another thematic nod to class struggle with the hope to stir class consciousness in listeners. Every song title makes reference to some tenant of the destructive and unequal economic system called capitalism as well as its ever-looming shadow socialism. Even the album cover borrows inspiration from Soviet-era propaganda, re-adapting the artistic styles of many communist agitators.

This album, as with the last, relies heavily on the sounds of classic Electro machines like Mono/Poly, MS-20, SH-101, Jupiter-8, Juno-106, SH-2, System 100, Juno 60, JX-3P, TB-303, Polysix, TR-606, OB-8, TR-808, ARP Odyssey, as well as some contemporary additions to his studio like Hydrasynth, System 8, MC-101, Prophet Rev2, Novation Peak, Minilogue, SE-02, and Microkorg.

DVS NME is the man behind the weekly radio show/daily blog called 'Dark Science Electro' and has been a dedicated contributor to the Electro community for the last 11 years. Ethno Service, a moniker for two electronic musicians based in Prague, are here with their debut long-player ‘NMA’. Released via LBD Sounds tape series, it comprises six masterfully crafted original compositions and a couple of remixes, including an uneasy jungle rework by Exhausted Modern’s new alias Oblaka and a spaced-out ambient escapism remix by voodoo priestess Lucie aka Avsluta. It’s not an easy listening affair, broken and sometimes unnerving rhythms blended with duo’s uniquely moody atmosphere, ever morphing and taking you places you didn’t even know existed. Expect percussion-heavy tracks on a lower side of bpm spectrum. You may dive into this album horizontally, or try to find out if it’s still danceable. Is it? Sure it is!
