The City of Northampton, Massachusetts, has received a $297,330 Local Acquisitions for Natural Diversity (LAND) grant. The funds will be used to permanently protect 72 acres in the southern Mineral Hills Greenway. The grant was announced on October 27, 2025. Northampton is one of five recipients in the state. Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra said the grant will help expand and maintain local conservation lands.
The protected land is managed by the Crescione family. It includes headwater streams and wetlands that support Hannum Brook and the Manhan River, both classified as coldwater streams. The acquisition will connect to 300 acres of the city’s greenway and fill a gap in a regional open space corridor. This will support wildlife and provide recreation for residents.
