After releasing New Zealand composer, drummer and producer Cory Champion’s acclaimed Clear Path Ensemble jazz album at the start of 2020, we’re proud to bookend the project with a new digital EP of remixes of songs off the album by Kush Jones, Christoph El Truento, AceMo, Glenn Astro, Daniel Hayles, and Champion under his Borrowed CS house and techno alias.

Where the Clear Path Ensemble album was a vivid ode to psychedelia, spiritual jazz, planetary rhythms and celestial oddities, these remixes turn his cosmic compositions into suped-up starcraft. Glen Astro and Kush Jones give ‘Jerry’s Funk’ a series of electro, dub techno and footwork re-rubs. Christoph El Truento and Borrowed CS both reimagine ‘Drip’ for the orbital nightclubs of the future. Mongo Skato rebuilds ‘Future Fatigue’ to a pounding pulse, and AceMo takes ‘Panorama Actual Spectral’ to Saturn and back. Rounding things out Daniel Hayles meditates on ‘Inner Space’ through sparse-but-emotive piano figures.

If you’ve already spent some time on the Clear Path Ensemble mothership, hearing how these considerable talents have reframed Champion’s jazz pieces is a real joy. And if not, start here on the dancefloor, before making your way back into the lounge bar later on.
