Johanna Knutsson’s ‘Somnis Vius’ (meaning ‘Vivid Dreams’ in Catalan) project materialised after a search for relaxing and meditative music proved fruitless, inspired to make her own selection she began to collect field recordings as she travelled. 

Comprised of natural soundscapes and forgotten gems in her record collection that she otherwise could not make use of in her usual Techno sets, the tape serves as a post-party comedown soundtrack as much as it does an aid to sleep or meditation.

EMERGENCE (PART ONE)

PLAVAY. Hydrodance is a sound installation in the form of an audio meditation created by OMMA and curated by Anna Politiko. This work was commissioned by Zuzeum for its inaugural exhibition We Aim to Live. The word 'plavay'(плавай) means 'to swim' in Russian, and reflects a transient state of meditation. 

OMMA says of her work: “Due to the effects of synesthesia (a neurological condition that causes one to experience senses differently – one might hear colours or taste words), I hear water and the blue colour as smooth, sinusoidal waves of sounds, opposite to noisy or sharp vibrations. This whole audio piece delivers different moods and vibrations. I wanted to reveal the phases of nature, all hydro elements: low and high tides, wind, sea birds, and underwater creatures. The piece conveys the feeling of ‘underwaterness’ through sound filters. Some elements of the composition were recorded with Playtronica’s TouchMe device when I was playing with conductivity in the water. ”

The PLAVAY. Hydrodance meditation hour* invites audiences to become entangled with water on a quantum level while surrounded by art. Water flows through us, it unifies all beings. By fostering interconnectedness through meditation, we gain new ways of feeling, seeing, and understanding.

Sound artist OMMA (Olga Maximova) studied jazz piano at Bill Evans Piano Academy in Paris. OMMA has an innovative and playful approach to music. Outside of performing and recording, OMMA is the co-creator of the tech project Playtronica, which turns everyday objects into musical instruments. She has staged solo synesthetic exhibitions in collaboration with Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, Foundation Louis Vuitton, L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, and Erarta.

Inspired by the hypnotic groove of their recent single "Vendetta", we asked Danish post-punk heroes https://soundcloud.com/iceage-official to put together a mix for us on the loose theme of Dark Disco. What they came up with is an impeccably-curated mix of tense, nervy sleaze, glossy synths and euphoric soul and funk. Like the best mixes, it's a real journey and a must-listen experience for all lovers of adventurous party nights.

Exclusive: A "Dark Disco Mix" From Iceage

Maxim Zhestkov is an artist who examines the connections of physical and digital realities. Divided by a permeable membrane, these two worlds exist in a constant exchange and redefine one another. Zhestkov acts on their intersection: manifesting the continuity of exploration, he imagines new worlds and expands the understanding of the phenomena present in our universe.

Merging architecture, sculpture, color, movement, and sound, the artist combines various channels of perception to develop a distinct universal language to depict complicated concepts and ideas in a succinct yet not scaled down manner. Experience and observation as well as a diverse and digitally sophisticated toolkit give an endless supply to this artistic research. Combining basic geometrical shapes — dots, spheres, and planes — Zhestkov creates intricate and hypnotic visual stories centralized on objects in their volume, detail, and beauty of movement.

The message of his art exploration is to find ways out of implicit limits of comprehension: capturing the unexpected, Maxim aspires to open doors to the unknown and spotlight the unseen.
