Hello lovelies, it's Zimo again. After 5 episodes of En-Tranced by Zimo, this one will be the first one with a guest. This month my guest is Edison Vega, a producer/DJ from Colombia who has a distinct taste.

While he traverses in the deep, esoteric sounds of Sonic Techno and Leftfield Trance, he dabbles in Old school Techno as well as Breakbeat. This mix, which you will hear in a moment, jumps between his different worlds. Acoustic details layer upon each other smoothly, while from the subtle transition techniques it invokes a sense of timelessness.

'Overclocked' is a mix of two things, tracks pitched up 16% or more, and tracks originally at around 150BPM. For the former, the key is considered after pitching up, whereas for the latter, Master Tempo is used to keep the original key. 13 out of 19 tracks in total are pitched beyond 16%.

Most tracks do not sound as good after a big speed change, so these tracks in particular took a while to compile and they sound amazing after the pitch up. The biggest increase of all is the track coming in at 34:25 (AES Dana - Opal-in). From originally 110BPM to 150BPM, that is a whopping 36% increase!

SPACER (@spacer2) is another Techno-Trance hybrid producer whom I discovered on Bandcamp. His only album back then did not have any purchases at all, but his track 'Purpose' was simple but effective, with hypnotic melodies and almost-psychedelic FXs. I asked him for a remix and there he delivered a solid, energetic techno spin on my track.

COBLE (@salutcoble) is one the few producers whose music is suitable for both peak-time clubbing and listening. His acid basslines and hard-hitting drums mixed with the original melody creates the perfect peak-time moment in a club. And with a tight arrangement, each element is showcased in terms of short sections, which creates a good listening experience.

Named after 'Avatar: The Last Airbender', Appa was a giant, fluffy bison which symbolizes bonding and inner strength, offering protection along the challenging journeys of spirituality pursuers. From March to August 2020 amidst the lockdown in the Netherlands, I reduced my interaction with the external world, which provided me a seemingly timeless period of time to explore my inner self and amplifying my own musical voice. The isolation and use of magic truffles during this time also invoked in me a sense of modern shamanism.

Zimo bridges the sound of techno and trance with recontextualized tactics of early psytrance sound design. 'Appa' diminishes the gap between club music and listening music by combining the driving, energetic sound of Techno with the mesmerizing harmony of early 90s Trance, revitalizing the 'Neo Trance' sound into intelligence, danceability and hypnosis. Zimo also takes a playful interest in unconventional ways of bending foley and nature sounds, revealing occasional glimpses of his otherworldly soundscape.

Zimo is a producer and DJ from Hong Kong. The name “Zimo” represents “指模”, which stands for “fingerprint” in Cantonese. His musical style is a hybridisation of trance, techno, and psy.

As a DJ, he has played in most underground clubs and bars in Hong Kong, such as 宀 Club, Acadana, Social Room and Oma. Featured by Mixmag Asia as an 'inspiring artist to follow in 2021', his music is 'tough and humble', and 'breathes soul into his techno'. The South China Morning Post stated Zimo as ' one of the most exciting young artists to emerge from the Hong Kong music scene'. In the summer of 2020, he relocated  to London, and began hosting underground music events. He has built up a reputation of being unique, at the forefront, and deeply knowledgeable about his music.

As a producer, his most recent album ‘Appa’ bridges the sound of techno and trance by recontextualizing early psytrance sound design. He has also produced official remixes for artists such as Mr. Free, an alias of B From E, and Kas:st, a techno duo from France. He has released on record labels such as Ismus, Mitsu2000, and Subdrive.
