Oh Sister - Vulva Underground Live at Mississippi Pizza

Erin, Charles, and Matt performed for several years together in long-running Portland ska & rocksteady band Franceska. Matt (known throughout the Northwest and the world as "DJ Simmerdown") befriended Kit and Tadd from their years performing in traditional ska big band Cornerstone and Mike Birenbaum from his years playing in Seattle's Easy Big Fella. All three bands played throughout the Northwest in the late 90's. Years passed. Friends drifted apart, got married, had children, attended school, and got jobs to bring home the bacon. Charles & Matt spoke longingly of the days when the soulful voice of Erin Wallace mesmerized audiences while performing at shows alongside ska legends Desmond Dekker, The Skatalites, The Specials, and others. Enter Kit and Tadd, who wanted to start playing ska music in the vein of Cornerstone, Franceska, Easy Big Fella and the original Jamaican legends. Christian Lyons (trumpet) brings his love of jazz, soul, reggae, and ska to the band...and man, does he bring it! Abby Bohannan comes to The Sentiments after a stint in Portland's ska-punk outfit The Brickers. And then, there is Mike Birenbaum. He plays with long-running Seattle ska stalwarts Easy Big Fella and we talked him into playing with us. He is awesome...really awesome. Out of those shared sentiments were born The Sentiments. A look back with respect, a look forward with joy for the positive vibes ska, rocksteady, and soul music bring.

We are a five piece Rock Band. Our music is heavily influenced by early 70's and 80's hard rock, folk. metal, and country artists like Johnny Cash and Willy Nelson. Although we do some covers our focus is on our original songs. Some covers that we perform live include Man In The Box (Alice in Chains), Rock Bottom (UFO), Big Shot (Billy Joel), Highly Suspicious (My Morning Jacket)

Arguably the best unsigned band in the Northwest, 
21 Horses was formed in Portland, Oregon in 2007, three Portland native members: James Carbaugh (vocals, guitar), Tony Esperanza (drums), and John Huckfeldt (bass). 

The origin of the band's name, which was coined by previous drummer Gary Nixon, and can be found on a billboard on the outskirts of a small town in Oregon, which listed the population of its livestock along with its human inhabitants.

With musical background experience ranging from country, blues, jazz and hard rock , 21 Horses plays a wide gamut of original music, and covers popular music stretching from the Rolling Stones to Stevie Wonder and Muddy Waters. 

In 2008, the group debuted their first CD, "Knockin", containing all original recordings, from which "L.U.T.T.S.N." (Liquored Up Trailer Trash Saturday Night) quickly sprang up to become the fan favorite and most requested "signature" song.

21 Horses is available for local, regional, and national events. Local venues the band has played include: The Alberta Rose Theater, Slims, Mock Crest, Mt Tabor Theater, Plews Brews, Decoy, San Dune, Lucky House, Montevilla Station, and the Portland Marathon, as well as private parties and benefits.

The band has laid down the tracks for a brand new CD, which is currently in the mixing phase and scheduled for release in early 2012.
