Brother Culture, The original Rasta MC outta Brixton, started his career on Jah Revelation Muzik, the soundsystem of the Rastafarian group the 12 Tribes of Israel. He has since taken his lyrics outernational: touring the world regularly and stopping off along the way to record tunes for The Prodigy, Mungo's Hifi and Roots Garden to name just a few. Culture tears up the stage with his infectious energy and always has a positive message to spread.

On A-Side, HANDYMAN delivers a bad Roots Stepper riddim, with a wonderfull vocal of DABA MAKOUREJAH ina #metoodub style. The second track is a massive horn cut performed by BENYAH, which already made his class in the biggest dances (Big Up Blackboard Jungle). Last, but not least, part3 is a heavy cosmic dub version from Danny T & Tradesman, sending you in another dimention until the last drop !
On B-Side, another killer riddim from HANDYMAN, with the wonderfull SYRA pon the mic, delivering a conscious vocal on women empowerment. 2nd track is a bad vocal dub from Handyman himself when, again, 3rd track is a cosmic dub straight from outta DANNY T & TRADESMAN brain and fingers.

Following the release of well received Steppin’ Forward LP in 2014, we're happy to announce Steppin’ Forward Remixed.
For this release we’ve asked producers featured on the original album to rework each other’s tracks and in the end we received an outstanding result of a 14 track compilation filled with deadly bass heavy riddims.
Steppin Forward Remixed will be available as digital only release on June  the 22nd.

Scotch Bonnet Records revels in the sheer breadth of reggae and dancehall for their second daringly diverse Puffers Choice compilation. Following the success of 2016’s volume 1, the label arm of Glasgow’s Mungo’s HiFi has selected more cream cuts from their globe-trotting link-ups
 
celebrating sound system culture. Once again, each track comes vetted and endorsed by the Scotch Bonnet team as prime examples of their work.
The album starts with the beguiling, mellow tones of late great Rasta singer Bim Sherman. Lightning and Thunder is a Mungo’s remix of a vocal supplied by master producer/engineer Adrian Sherwood. Next up is French collective Subactive’s aquatic dub imagining of Follow Me by UK Garage/Grime project Wolves, featuring the voice of Bo* Johnson.
Another veteran revisits his past when hypnotic Jamaican deejay Supercat straddles Chief Rockas’ update of the classic Gunshot riddim for a reprise of “the Don Dada’s” 1982 hit Dance Inna New York. The vibes then travel bang up to date with a sparse Mungo’s fix of ethereal singer-songwriter Nem’s 2017 eco-breakout Purest Force.
Jamaican chanter Isha Bel pays tribute to her faith and follicles during Locks, given a belly-battering bass blend by Aquarius. The A side closes with a continuation of the Rasta theme. General Jah Mikey, channelling Burning Spear for his own Ites Green and Gold, rides a deft digital riff by bald-head New Zealand-based super-producer Naram.
The B side kicks off with a meeting of reggae’s finest from the city of Leeds. Danny T and Tradesman build an industrial-strength base for anti-violence lament Up Deh: a rare vocal outing from Iration Steppas’ Mark Iration. Then it’s time for Poland’s Dreadsquad to ease the pressure with swinging one- drop vibraphone instrumental Space.
JA meets “Glasgae” for Feel Good, an uplifting collab between Jamaican singer Skari and Scottish producer Escape Roots. Fans of Prince Fatty covering Kraftwork on the previous comp will rate vintage reggae voice Earl Sixteen, wrapping his pristine pipes around Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart, helmed hauntingly by Capitol 1212.
Scotch Bonnet’s own Thomas Stalawa gets everyone marching to a beat inspired by Steely and Clevie’s Dem Bow, as dangerous Spanish emcee Ponchita Peligros demands all in attendance Run the Calypso. The album ends with a request from un-categorisable Israeli collective Trillion featuring General G that puffers choose wisely - via anti-cigarette missive No Nicotine.
The Scotch Bonnet crew think you’ll agree: Puffers Choice volume 2 continues the bass-heavy balance of budding and seasoned performers, from “yard and abroad”. It’s another outer-national reggae and dancehall party you’ll pull up and play, again and again.

Chief Rockas Ft Supercat - Dance Inna New York

The latest installment of the Hold Tight Records digital catalogue comes courtesy of Ickle, a core Hold Tight family member and exciting up and coming DJ, producer and engineer. Ickle bring us two roots inspired tracks alongside the vocal talents of Dee Gomez and Indra MC.

The opening track from the EP ‘The Most High’ is a perfect example of Ickle’s energetic and hypnotising signature sound. A backbone of roots drums and a rolling bassline accompanies piano skanks and organ licks, with Dee Gomez providing euphoric and catchy lead vocals that go hand in hand with Ickle’s dubbed out style. 

The second track ‘Eye For An Eye’ is one for the sound systems. Incorporating heavyweight rolling percussion alongside stomach churning low end and ethereal sound effects, this one is a must for any selector. Indra MC compliments this with his signature style, hypnotic and melodic vocals accentuating a conscious subject matter.

HTD004 takes inspiration from the roots of UK sound system culture, whilst representing the Hold Tight ethos: presenting new sounds that draw heavy influence from the music’s history.

From "Highvisators" 

Originally planned as a 4-track EP, this 4-day studio collaboration between the precursors of French Dub and the famous Lyon dub makers seems to have been a singularly prolific one both in terms of quality and quantity. 

The nine initial tracks deliver the brilliant hybridism between the two formations where Improvisators Dub's steppas rhythms (thank you Knarfenstein and Nicolodub) bond with the ethnic scratch ambiances, the synths and drums breaks that are so dear to High Tone. 

Inside one same track, the guitar skanks by Manutension and Julio bring complementary ambiances and rhythms that brilliantly enrich the whole. The sitar of Fransax and the melodicas bring an acoustic touch that counterbalance the electro incursions providing colder and more crystalline ambiances.
