For today's exclusive track premiere, I am featuring a piece from the second volume of music by a UK trio called Quiet Places, consisting of Dennis White, Charlie May, and Dave Gardner. Their debut release, appropriately titled Volume 1, showed up on my radar back in 2020 [has it really been that long?] by way of Ryan Griffin's meticulously curated A Strangely Isolated Place imprint, the output of which I consistently and hungrily consume. As is foreshadowed with the title, we are now gifted with Volume 2 of this group's creations, featuring four long-players, each taking up an entire side on this gorgeous marbled 2x12" release [the piece you are hearing today is not on the album, and is a digital-only special bonus track]. As I described the first volume three years ago, the swirling atmospheres in a haze-inducing daydream,  the humming synth pads with the layers built upon each one, and the kaleidoscope of sampled snippets are back again in Volume 2 to snatch me back from this reality and drop me into times when Boards of Canada, Global Communication and The Future Sound of London soundtracked my days. On their latest for ASIP, the trio once again command the sonic artistry and deep knowledge of the stylistic snapshots that are stitching up my memories into a cohesive whole. This is a welcome escape from the bombardment of the "usual", a future flashback into the past of the present, a twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop.

Natur, the Brazilian producer known for his evocative soundscapes, makes a compelling return with his latest release on the Mood Series. Titled Made In Brazil, this collection of six meticulously crafted tracks showcases a diverse range of dub techno styles, giving listeners an outstanding trip through ambient, melodic, and deeply evocative soundscapes.

The album opens with 'Dreams In Dub,' a track that sets a soothing tone with its airy chords and melodic undercurrents. The atmosphere is electric yet calming, reminiscent of brainwaves, creating a low BPM drift that feels like riding a gentle wave. The track's ambient fade-out leaves a lingering sense of relaxation and awe, making it a perfect introduction to the album's intricate sonic world. 'Echosphere' follows with a mid-tempo dub techno rhythm that's ideal for opening any DJ set. The track's ominous tones create an air of anticipation, with a laid-back tech groove that settles comfortably into the listener's consciousness. Its deep, rhythmic content lays low, drawing you in deep and ensuring a emotional experience. 'Brazil Dub' is subaquatic journey with its island bass hits and long, evolving chord echoes. The track conjures the feeling of being on a rickety ship, with sounds pinging like an ancient analog sonar. The deep melody and rolling basslines make this track a standout, offering a unique sounding example in the genre. 'Transient Echos' is a masterclass in blending classic dub techno sounds with ambient elements. The track's deep, rolling bassline and low BPM create a hypnotic effect. Despite its slow tempo, the track hits hard, proving that a banger doesn't need to be fast-paced. Its hypnotic quality and sick beats make it a memorable addition to the album. 'Dub Infusion' ramps up the energy with an upbeat tempo and swirling electric chords. The track's groove is punctuated by sharp stabs, creating a hi-tech, flighty dancefloor crusher. This track is all business, designed to get the crowd moving with its infectious rhythm and electrifying energy. The album closes with 'A Nameless Trail,' a heady and almost clinical ambient dub track. The haunting and intense chord work pushes the slow-moving beat forward, creating a deeply introspective and thought-provoking finale. The track's ambient dub elements make it a fitting conclusion to an album that explores the depths of dub techno with such finesse.

Overall, Made In Brazil shows Natur's excellent skill as a producer and his ability to navigate various styles within the dub techno genre. Each track offers a unique perspective, from soothing ambient melodies to deep, rolling basslines and high-energy grooves.
